Summary
Bayonetta just adores the holidays.
Except Valentine's Day.
On paper, it's practically designed to tickle her fancy — wine and sex and cute stuffed animals abound — but she loathes it with a passion normally reserved for cockroaches and crying babies.

Summary
She picked up the pace, fighting through a thicket of mulberry bushes to emerge into a clearing.
Lined with snow dusted bushes and ancient oaks, there was something spurious to its construction, a picturesque scene taken from a storyteller's imagination. The center was consumed by a large pond, frozen over, and the far side boasted a large willow tree, branches drooping with the weight of icicles the size of her arms. Several similar clearings dotted the Umbran forests, spots of reprieve and mischief for witches young and old alike. Here, in no man's land, it was mostly unremarkable.
Save for the man ice skating across the pond.

Summary
This close, her scent is overwhelming.
Sickly sweet, like fruit left to rot in the sun, it mixes with her sweat and rosemary perfume in a way Jeanne ought to find disgusting, but can't. They have precious little time, but any is enough for Jeanne after endless years of waiting for this very day, this very moment.
"Cereza."
Her pupils are blown, the rise and fall of her chest too rapid to be explained away by the uneventful tussle with the last of those creatures.
"Yes?"

Before the portal to the Alphaverse opens, Bayonetta and Jeanne share a goodbye.

Summary
“I hate riddles.”
“The straightforward type, then?”
“The honest type.”
“Contrary to the Umbra way.”
Jeanne moves again, now close enough that Cereza can feel the pulse of her magic and the warmth of her body heat.
“You know not of the Umbra, Sage. Mind your tongue. Secrets are not the same as dishonesty.”
“A point on which we agree. Have you never had a secret you had to keep, not for your own safety but that of those dear to you?”
..................................................................
Amidst growing tension between the Umbra and Lumen, an impossible child is born in secret. Raised as an unlikely Sage, she is eventually called to Vigrid for purposes not yet known. But what she finds there - who she finds there - will change the course of history forever.

Summary
"I lied, Bayonetta." She over-pronounces the syllables, mockery threaded into every consonant and vowel. "I do have something to say to you. Go fuck your—
The gun hits her face with enough force to send a tremor up Bayonetta's wrist. On instinct she opens her mouth — to gasp, to curse — and Bayonetta takes the opportunity to shut her up.
With the barrel wedged between her teeth, the pathetic noise the woman lets out is muffled by steel and her own fat tongue. For good measure Bayonetta cradles the back of her head, forcing the weapon deeper past Jeanne's lips. It's a tight fit, but she's nothing if not persistent.
"What a filthy mouth you have! Almost as filthy as my gun." It's true; the length of it is coated in alabaster dust and blood, the grime forming a thick layer that dulls its usual luster.
The idea is only half formed as the words leave her mouth. "If you won't tell me what I'd like to know, you can be useful in other ways."

Summary
Jeanne tracked the magic to the gymnasium. It hung in the air like it wanted its presence known and it had gone from a metallic tang on Jeanne’s tongue to the heavy, coppery taste of blood. A summoning, and a powerful one at that, but done by an unpracticed hand. The magic had taken more form – not sloppy as Jeanne had initially thought, but untamed.
As though the witch had slept for centuries then tried to summon with half her power and a mind addled with confusion.
The thought was thrown to the back of her mind immediately. Jeanne wouldn’t entertain it. It would not be.
Jeanne, and the refusal to let herself hope.

Summary
"I thought I might find you up here."
Celia allows herself to smile, turning to face Florence, silhouetted against the moonlight. She's beautiful, a vision; and even if she doesn't believe it herself, Celia is willing to believe it for her for as long as it takes. "Am I so predictable?"
"No," Florence laughs, gathering her cardigan around her before sitting. "But I like to think that I know you well."
