Summary
In the aftermath of the fall of Hawkins Nancy Wheeler is stuck picking up the pieces of her life. With the world all but ending, there isn't time to focus upon the tragedy that is her own love life or the resurgence of feelings she suddenly has for one person she really, truly shouldn't. In the midst of said disasters, all she can do is roll with the punches and try survive.
Steve Harrington, well he is just a glutton for punishment and cannot seem to stay away despite every instinct telling him to go. His cards are on the table and all he can do now is wait for Nancy to play her hand.

“Do you trust me?” Evie asked. Her eyes, like warm honey, stared at him intently.
This was the natural stopping point. The point where it was obvious Gale had forgotten that he was supposed to be the responsible one, the one to keep them both out of trouble. Staring at the soft curves of Evie’s body, her hand under his shirt - those were amusing, one-off accidents. Now was the perfect time for Gale to gently guide Evie’s hand away and tell her she should try to get some sleep.
“I trust you,” Gale said hoarsely.
Well, he tried.

Evie looked out over the city again. “Baldur's Gate is a wonderful place.”
Gale marveled at how he had once found Evie difficult to read. Every arch of her brow and tilt of her mouth seemed to say so much to him now. He noticed the tightness in her smile, how quickly she broke eye contact with him. Even the tone of her voice rang false.
“Now why do I get the sense that you’re finding this all a bit below ‘wonderful’?” he asked.
She pouted. “I don’t like this - this thing you do now. Where you know what I’m thinking all the time."

Summary
Evie and Gale seem to have failed in their mission to get along. If they’re not ignoring each other, they’re arguing. The journey to Baldur’s Gate has made them uneasy allies but hardly good friends.
Then a mysterious portal opens up in the Elfsong Tavern. Gale is pulled through and a different Gale emerges in his place.
Evie isn’t surprised to hear that this new Gale has been experimenting with a teleportation spell, one that he mangled so horribly it sent him to a parallel universe. However, she’s very surprised to hear that in this Gale’s home world, he and Evie are very close.
In fact - they’re in love.

After thinking that there was nothing left for her in Haven, she left to explore the world and figure out what she wanted, figure out how to heal whilst trying to leave a broken heart behind. She'd been on tour but she felt like there was something still missing. She keeps thinking of what could've been and wonders whether it's too late.
In a moment of denial and pain, he turned on the girl he cared about, and he's since wished he could take it back. He keeps thinking of her, keeping a distance but hoping one day she'll return. He knows his mistake cost him dearly, and wonders if there's any hope he'll be able to fix it.
She eventually comes back to Haven Springs to reconnect with the town around the anniversary of her brother's death. But then the spring festival and the night of their first kiss draws upon them. Do they dare to try again?

“Then what kind of world are you trying to build, Joseph?” She demanded, pointing her finger at him and pushing it against his chest. “Taking innocent lives? Your psycho brother making me kill innocent people!”
“No one is innocent,” he said softly. “We both know there is a part of you that understands.”
“Fuck. You.”
Joseph brought his hand up and grasped her wrist, flattening her hand against his chest. She was trembling, breathing heavy as adrenaline coursed through her body. Reflexively, she tried to pull away, but he was strong and did not let go.
His lips pressed against the top of her head, and he inhaled deeply, taking in her scent. It was strange and intimate, inappropriate and yet not unwanted. Heat began to spread through her body and Violet wasn’t sure if she wanted to rip off Joseph’s head or his clothes. It was starting to feel one and the same, this passion she had toward him that was becoming more difficult to deny.
