Shane wants to push him, kicking and screaming, to make them say it to his fucking face. That after all this time, they still hate him for the heinous crime of falling in love.
“We’ve been married for two years,” Shane says. “I’m not sure that qualifies as playing house. I mean, it’s longer than you were with your first wife, isn’t it?”

Ilya lifted his head, eyes blazing. “You wanted to know how to dance with a girl,” he said quietly. “I’m showing you.” His thumb swept along Shane’s lower lip, then pressed gently until Shane parted his mouth again. Ilya leaned in, gave him another searing kiss. Shane leaned into it, desperate. Every inch of him leaned.
When Ilya finally pulled back, Shane chased him, lips chasing his. Ilya smiled, pleased, before catching Shane’s jaw in one large hand, holding him still. He studied the flushed face, the glassy eyes, the swollen mouth. “That’s how you do it,” he said, low and final, as if stamping a grade on an assignment. He rubbed his thumb over Shane’s cheek one last time, then stepped away.
Shane tries to date a woman. Ilya shows him how it's done.

Summary
Shane hated clubs. Anyone who had spent any amount of time with him knew that he absolutely hated clubs. But it was Wyatt Hayes’s birthday, so Shane was sitting on a lumpy velvet couch surrounded by a majority of the Ottawa Centaurs players in a fucking strip club of all places. He glanced to his left to see Wyatt with his wife, Lisa, who was perched on his lap, both intensely watching the woman on stage peel her clothes off piece by piece to a low, thrumming beat. A blush crept up his cheeks as he followed their eyeline.
Or: The Centaurs venture out to a strip club for Wyatt's birthday, and Shane makes some very bad choices. When he wakes up in the morning, Shane is left hungover, ashamed, emotionally raw, and desperate to get the punishment he knows he's due out of the way.

He gazes at Ilya to determine if his mind has drifted to that hotel rooftop, too. Instead, he finds blank eyes. He's watching the ice dilute his vodka like it's about to make the shot to win or lose the Stanley Cup. The hand presses into his hip, now Shane is noticing, thumb and fingers artistically skating circles into the material of his suit trousers.
Shane nudges him. “You okay?”
Ilya responds with a curt nod, which does the opposite of confirming that he is, in fact, okay. A move that sharp and short would only ever translate to No, not really. Not at all, actually. And Ilya knows that Shane isn't an idiot, so he lifts his gaze finally and meets Shane's eyes, which seems to settle whatever nervous disaster is storming inside of him even just a little. With his accent prominent, he says, “Later.”
