What a stupid thought. What a childish thought - one that belonged to Hadrian, not Royce, who could never have afforded the luxury of such beliefs. A bad thing didn't cease to be real because you refused to acknowledge it; you were only making it easier for it to destroy you. It was Hadrian who refused to face up to the cruel realities of the world, not Royce.
If Hadrian was dead, Royce's ignorance wouldn't change that. Nothing would.
And yet there he was, hanging from a rock ledge, and he didn't want to look.
Hadrian falls. Royce... copes.

"Your mother made me make my own pie with her yesterday." He said, sitting up to glare. "What is it with your family? Why do none of you respect nobles?" He said and Merlin dropped the plate of food he was carrying. "...I hate you." He sighed, staring at his food bouncing on the ground with a loud clatter. "I should hire your mother as my servant. She wouldn't drop my food." He added with a fierce nod.
"My mother is here?" He asked and Arthur paused.
"You haven’t seen her?"
"No. Fuck. It’s finally happening." He whispered. Arthur stared, absolutely baffled. "She’s come to kill me." He explained and dashed towards the door to peer outside.
"What?" Arthur snorted. "Merlin. Your mother can be very firm, but she’s not the killing type. She is too softhearted for such things." He said and Merlin slammed the door shut, leaning against the wood as if barricading it.
"If you're not careful you'll be next."

"Really?" Arthur asked, brushing the dirt off of him as he glowered at the man. "Again? I had it under control - and we aren't allies!" He added heatedly. Balinor shrugged, looking nonplussed by Arthur's anger as he stroked the dragon's wing.
"I know." Balinor said simply. "But I promised my son I wouldn't let you die."
"Your...You have a son?" Arthur demanded. Again, Balinor shrugged. "Why does your son...? Nevermind. Don't save me again!" He snapped, pointing a finger at the man. He turned to stalk back to the horse only for a column of fire to blow past him. The prince jumped. He spun around to tell the man off again but immediately noticed one of the remaining bandits who had been slowly creeping towards him burnt to a crisp. He looked back at Balinor.
"Sorry."

Merlin blinked at him, then tilted his head with theatrical puzzlement. “Rhyming? Not that I’ve heard. That would be absurd.”
Arthur stared. “You just did it.”
“Did what?” Merlin asked, his face the perfect picture of blank idiocy.
“That—that thing,” Arthur spluttered. “You just rhymed ‘heard’ and ‘absurd’.”
“Did I?” Merlin scratched his ear. “Are you sure you’ve got the right… word?”
Arthur’s eye twitched.
Or: what if Merlin’s “I'm teaching him some poetry” lie in Season 5, Episode 3 spiralled into a full-blown cultural movement featuring knights training in iambic pentameter, laws being written in verse, and a king begging his manservant to please just speak normally?

Naturally, Xie Lian attempted to do so. Naturally, he stubbed his toe on a root, toppled over, and rolled down the hill in hot, uncontrollable pursuit of the ring.
For a ghost, giving your ashes to a loved one is a high-risk decision. Giving your ashes to the God of Disaster is a tremendously high-risk decision.
Hua Cheng is the most qualified being to make that decision. And, as Xie Lian discovers, a Ghost King does not do take-backsies.

Lan Zhan, unfortunately, had been shocked and appalled the day Wei Wuxian first drunkenly proposed ending Lan Xichen’s seclusion by force.
His husband would die before he hurt Wei Wuxian, but the way Lan Wangji’s grip had tightened on his shoulders as he pinned him down with his depthless golden eyes. He looked simultaneously terrified and lethal… not a minute passed before Wei Wuxian swore on his trusty steed, Lil’ Apple, to not even think about such things anymore.
And so, Wei Wuxian had not paused any longer at the path leading to the Hanshi as it grew over with vines and weeds. Whenever the memories of Lan Xichen’s horrified tears at Guanyin Temple resurfaced, he did his best to gently step around them. All in all, Wei Wuxian had performed admirably in his efforts to appease his husband by forgetting about his new brother in law.
All until that night a week ago…
