‘It’s okay, kid,’ Steve reassured him, ‘it’s not going to happen again. I won’t let it happen ever again.’
Dustin pulled away from him, sniffling. Tears dripped down his face and onto his dirt stained Hellfire shirt. He looked so small in Steve’s arms, like he wasn’t 17 at all but the same 13 year old kid who had come unexpectedly barrelling into his life at just the right moment and changed it for the better - who made him want to be better. To see him this hurt, this broken, made Steve want to throw the whole world away.
When Dustin has a run in with the bullies, Steve and Robin are there for him.

She continued along the trail until she reached the small clearing overlooking the river where she and Bobby would always sit when they had walked for too long and their legs got too tired. She approached the bench in the middle of the clearing, her whole body tensing as she did, telling her no. Turn around.
But she had to do this. She had to be here, she had to confront this bone deep, soul aching loss, or she was never going to be able to live. And she knew Bobby would have wanted her to do everything possible to make that happen.

Despite being able to save Gabby, and from her own brilliant plan, Miranda still couldn’t shake the all encompassing feeling of guilt. It consumed her entire body, making her heart beat faster and her head spin.
The fact that she had looked up to and trusted someone so despicable weighed heavily on her. Yes, she didn’t know how cruel he was before today, but she should’ve known. If she had known none of this would have happened in the first place.

When Lou Buckley gets the call from his niece on a sleepy Sunday afternoon, he can’t say he isn’t surprised, but it’s a pleasant one.
“I was wondering - I wanted to ask if - well, my friends and I were wanting someplace to meet up once a month, just like for a weekend, and we were wondering if we would come stay with you? It’s kind of complicated, see, because-” Lou politely waits for Robin to finish her spiel, complete with loop-backs and tangents, fiddles with the twirls of the phone cord whilst he listens to her talk. He doesn’t need to hear it, though, because he said yes in his mind three minutes back.
