He’s not forced onto the path of salvation, he isn’t teared limb from limb into an ideal he doesn’t believe in—he takes those first few defining steps toward his rehabilitation, along with Maruki.
As he looks up at Maruki, at the doctor, at his therapist, at his friend, Ren doesn’t understand why, even after all that comforting, he still feels wrong.
But Maruki’s hand bringing him away from his teammates is warm, and his heart feels like a block of ice needing to be thawed open, so it’s okay.
He’s going to be okay.
Maruki will make him warm again.
or: what if instead of sumire being captured in maruki’s palace, ren was? (very light maruki x joker due to brainwashing)

“Welcome, sir! What can I get for you?” Ren asks in a shrill voice he’s put on. Perhaps strangling his boyfriend instead would suffice.
Goro just gawks for a few moments. And a few more, and up until Ren just bursts out laughing, he hadn’t even realised he was stuck in a trance. Methodically, he slides into a barstool, head staring down at the polished wooden counter.
This… this is what Ren wanted, huh…? To absolutely ruin Goro—
“You know, I didn’t expect you to be this stunned.” Ren murmurs, and Goro finally regains the neck strength to glare at him. His smug smile only grows.
or: ren invites goro to crossroads while he’s working, but somehow forgets to tell his boyfriend he’s going to be wearing drag while on the job. this doesn’t go over well with goro’s sanity.

“You mentioned only really having had frozen food as a kid, so I thought I’d bring you something from Leblanc.” Ren shuffles his feet—rather astounding, it is, to see him so shy. If Goro weren’t mistaken, he’d be inclined to believe he’s… embarrassed.
Which is a rather intriguing emotion on him, all things considered.
He holds out three containers of curry, stacked up under his chin. They point Goro’s gaze towards his lightly pink cheeks, which he quirks a brow at.

“No, I haven’t lost my edge.” Goro sighs, digging his fingers into his arms. Even to his own ears, it sounds weak and stilted—hanging on by a thread just like his patience.
“What’s wrong?” Amamiya tilts his head, daring smile taunting Goro more than the thief would ever know, “Not sure you can handle it?”
“I can handle it just fine.” Goro grits, finally acquiescing to his destiny of being between Ren Amamiya’s legs.
or: akechi goro witnesses ren amamiya crossdressing, and gives up on his own sanity and ethics in favour of THE ren amamiya (he's screwed and he knows it)
