Summary
So, yes, Shane has his own little ecosystem on Apple Maps. It’s part of his routine, checking in on everyone and making sure they’re where they should be, checking in if they’re not. He’s got his mom and dad, Hayden, Rose, several of the Centaurs, and Ilya. It’s been a gradual thing, getting close to someone, their location getting shared with him, and him checking in with them.
But, the way it started, well. That’s a whole other story. It starts, with Ilya.

Summary
He thought that he would have to run out of people soon. Surely, there had to be a finite number of queer men in the area, and he’d run out of options eventually. Then, he could really delete the app, and accept his life as a perpetual bachelor and probable hermit.
He should have known. In retrospect, he should have fucking known it was only a matter of time.
Shane was swiping mindlessly, leaning against his kitchen island, killing time before he left for work, when a new profile popped up across his feed. He recognized him instantly from that stupid mirror selfie, one that he had sent Shane right after he had taken it in some shitty coffee shop bathroom downtown.
He’d know him anywhere.
Or, Shane keeps seeing his ex on dating apps, and it's driving him insane.

Summary
“You really wouldn’t mind if I had sex with someone else?”
Ilya does mind. Hearing it said back to him, almost makes him flinch, a sudden and brittle sound right next to his ear that he fails to recoil from in time. But he swallows back the bitter truth and replies, “Of course not. If that is what you want.”
He waits, sitting on his living room couch, phone pressed painfully against his ear, his other hand gripping his knees till his knuckles blanched. He could feel his own heart rattling behind his ribs, pulse rockingloudly. His mind was an echo of alarm, demanding of him: Why isn't Shane saying anything?
It was the loudest silence he’s ever lived through, until Shane finally said, “Okay.”
OR: inspired by the fight in TLG where Ilya tells Shane he can sleep with other men. But this time, Shane actually takes the offer.

Summary
Shane tries to remember, peering into the darkness surrounding the car with a furrowed brow. It hurts to move, and he feels something warm and slick sliding down his cheek.
More blood, his mind supplies rather unhelpfully.
He was driving after dark, but he shouldn’t have been. He wasn’t supposed to be. They had all night together, so why is he here?
I already chose you, Hollander.
Shane inhales sharply as his mind slowly fills in the gaps in his memory. They fought. Ilya told him to leave. Shane did.
And then he crashed.

Summary
“Oh shit.”
Shane looked up, turned his head to where J.J. was sat across the aisle. The blue glow of his phone lit up the too-wide whites of his eyes staring down intently at whatever was on his screen. Shane’s stomach lurched again, anticipating a sudden stop his body hadn’t quite caught up to yet.
“The Centaurs’ plane crashed in Tampa.”
There was a moment where everything was still moving, where Shane and the world were still spinning at the same speed they both always had, and then it all came crashing down. Shane wasn’t sure whether it was him that had stopped, or the world around him, but either way, in a matter of seconds the distance between himself and the bus he had only a moment ago been sitting in became staggeringly, dizzyingly vast.
The Centaur's emergency landing plays out a little bit worse, and Shane is left with the harsh reality of the cost of loving Ilya in secret.
