Eddie swipes away from the conversation and shoves his phone into his pocket. He swallows down the whine that threatens to permeate the innocent air of the store, and with clammy hands, pushes his cart to self-checkout so none of these poor cashiers ask if he's having a medical emergency from how red his face is. Is he drooling? He doesn’t think he’s drooling – at least, not from the mouth.
On autopilot, he loads his thankfully non-perishable groceries into his backseat and navigates his vehicle safely and calmly through the winding downtown streets to Buck’s apartment.

Summary
The last time Buck was in the hospital and alive, Eddie couldn’t make himself leave. He sat outside the door, or in the lobby, forever waiting, frozen in that moment, holding out that Buck would wake up.
This time, Eddie can’t stay where Buck isn’t. It doesn’t hit him until later that everywhere has become where Buck isn’t, and Eddie has nowhere to put himself where he doesn’t feel the loss of him.

He tells Josh this is the last time – which, Eddie probably should be offended that Josh’s only response was a shrug and to pull out his phone, but he’s really not.
He’s pretty sure Josh opened Grindr, too, which helps obliterate the sting.
Eddie is a grown man, a father, and a firefighter with more trauma than a beaten dog. He doesn’t care about having no-kiss sex with Josh.
Buck is the only one on his mind.
In the morning, when he wakes up bright and early to bring Buck his favorite sugary breakfast – an iced cinnamon bun and a java chip frappuccino from the coffee shop across from his apartment – and a love confession that’s something akin to, I love you, it’s always been you, and it only ever will be you, the building is on fire.

Summary
In the firehouse gym, Eddie is in a perpetual, terrible, devastating state of horniness.
Which, really, it’s not the ideal place to be this horny. It’s fucking… perverted is what it is. His coworkers are usually puttering around or people are talking about their nastiest puke-filled medical calls. Not to mention how the siren could go off any second while he’s sporting a semi in his basketball shorts.
It’s all Buck’s fault. His boyfriend is two-hundred and fifty pounds of sheer muscle on his smaller days, and it’s cutting season right now, so he’ll be putting on more of that delicious weight and muscle soon when bulking season – Eddie’s favorite time of the year besides his son’s birthday – inevitably rolls back around. His arms, legs, belly, neck, and thighs are toned to perfection with a few layers of fat to cover them up, and Eddie counts every exact second until he can sink his teeth into all of that beautiful, pale, freckled skin.

Summary
Buck doesn’t know what he’s going to say next. All he hears is the awful sound of splintering wood, a beam emancipating itself from above them. Without another thought, Buck lunges forward and pushes Eddie out of its path.
When Buck falls through the unstable give of the floor, he feels a bone chilling terror. But it’s okay, because Eddie was knocked away. The beam missed him.
Then, a terrible noise like thunder, a mammoth of sound, and Eddie is falling too. Why is Eddie falling too?
Buck takes a great big tumble. Like always, Eddie is right behind him.

“Yeah,” Buck confirms. “Why is this so confusing?”
“It’s not,” Hen says. Chimney opens his mouth, as if to object, and Hen kicks him sharply. “As a card-carrying lesbian, I thank you for your allyship.”
“Awesome.” Buck grins, relieved. He pauses as her words register. “Wait. Do you actually have a card? Is this a thing? I feel like I should know this.”
Based on the way Hen bursts into laughter, he’s pretty sure the answer is no.
