Arthur gave Merlin his cloak thinking only of the warmth it would offer in a snowstorm. He never thought his manservant may be mistaken for him and snatched by bandits. Nor did he expect his dashing rescue of Merlin to turn his world so utterly on his head.
Because the bandits hadn't kidnapped a prince. They'd snatched a sorcerer, and now captivity is the least of anyone's problems.

Summary
When Crowley tries to help out his mob by secretly going to the bookshop where other members have been disappearing, he certainly wasn't expecting to lose his usual silver-tongue in front of the owner. He certainly wasn't expecting to go back, either, or slowly develop a crush on him, or have his life turned upside down, running from the other members of the mob instead of helping them.

His eyes scan the darkness, and in the pale refrigerator light, he makes out a tall figure hunched into the fridge, oddly long figures clutching a box of donuts, making distinct sounds of mastication. Stumbling in horror, Wolfwood bumps into the creaky door, triggering a sharp squeal, and the creature’s face snaps towards him. Glowing eyes lock Wolfwood in place as the being slowly straightens, spine popping as it rises to its full height, towering over him. Over the pounding of his heart, he hears a familiar laugh.
"Oh, Wolfwood. It's you."
Wolfwood gasps. "V-...Vash?" He is paralyzed by fear as the creature makes its way towards him, a gnarled hand extending, reaching, grabbing for his throat-
Wolfwood blinks his eyes, suddenly aware of the bag of shredded cheese before him, held in the creature’s outstretched hand. "Here," the figure says, a smile across his face, stretching ear to chin to ear.

"Sorry?" the cook asks. He comes over, and Nick gets a good look at spiky blonde hair and fathomless blue eyes framed by lashes like clock springs. "Was there something wrong?"
And okay. So Nick might have a thing for a tall blonde with a dancer's figure. A man likes what he likes. With an effort he usually reserves for life-and-death scenarios, he forces himself to smile and says, "Is this your first day?"
"No? Why do you ask?"
"I asked for my eggs over easy."
The cook glances at Nick's table, now holding six different eggs cooked three different, incorrect ways, and Nick can see in his eyes the exact moment he decides the next thing he'll say. His brow furrows into a faux quizzical expression. "I don't see the problem," he answers.Bookmarked by libs394

Or, Vash is subjected to the mortifying ordeal of being known.

Summary
He hates the way Vash is looking at him, the disbelief mixed with hope. He doesn’t deserve to have Vash gazing at him at all, not after what he’s done. “You really think that?” Vash whispers, and Wolfwood equally hates the fact he’d ever believe otherwise. “I’m helping make a difference?”
He forces himself to meet Vash’s eyes again, keeping his voice as measured as he can. “It’s what you do, isn’t it?” he says, and there’s a hoarseness to it. “It’s what you always do.”
Having accepted his death, Wolfwood instead struggles with the fact he survived and is forced to find a new purpose. It takes a village to raise a child, but a repenting priest and an immigrant space explorer to raise a whole orphanage.

He was a Plant, something other than humans. Something that couldn't be understood logically by a human, too different to think he would ever fit into a human dwelling without being pushed away. He was never a human in the first place, and since he was born, he was dissimilar. His mind worked differently, making connections and patterns that couldn’t be seen even by human geniuses. His body was different because even if he looked like he had flesh, it was only a physical manifestation of a being that couldn’t survive without it. He may bleed, but it wasn’t blood that escaped his body. It’s not bones that break when he falls.
Or: Vash thinks he doesn't have a Soulmate because he doesn't have a Mark, unaware that for Plants, it works differently.
