Henry leaned forward, his chin tucked into his hand, as he took in his cousin to try and judge if he was serious. The alcohol may have muddled his thought processes, a benefit to his cousin who would get a confession out of him. That thought made Henry realize he did in fact have something to admit. He let his head fall forward and hit the table; he had definitely consumed too much beer tonight.
Edited to fix that 3rd chapter. Not sure how it got broke, it looked fine when previewed before posting. *sigh*

This story was originally posted in March of 2004. It is, as they say, a product of its time. It's written in first-person present-tense POV, so if that's a deal-breaker, bail out now. There are things I would change if I were writing it now, but I'm going to let it stay as it was posted lo these many years ago. All that being said, I'm still pretty proud of it.

When Peter Parker wakes up in Stark Tower, he's surrounded by his idols and told he's got no choice but to remain there until a solution has been found. A few days ago, it'd have sounded like a dream. But one thing leads to another and Peter's comfortable life splinters and cracks until—finally—he's broken enough to be an Avenger.

Summary
After 11 years playing shortstop for the New Jersey Knights, Danny Williams is traded to the Honolulu Warrior Kings, perpetual cellar dwellers of the American League West and the armpit of major league baseball. With a bum knee and a dwindling batting average, Danny knows his career is in its death throes. But as long as he can walk, he's going to play, and hey, at least Gracie still loves him. When All-Star power-hitting second baseman Steve McGarrett shocks the sports world by turning down a lucrative contract with his current team, the Monterey Bay Seals, to return home and play for the Kings, the team his late father helped build, everything suddenly changes. The Kings aren't the losers they used to be and despite Danny's glass knee, the double play combo of Williams-McGarrett keeps making the nightly highlight reels. Better yet, Danny is hitting again.
Only there's something Danny and Steve aren't telling anyone: They're more than just teammates. Much more. For Danny at least, it's a huge reason for his recent success and anyway, they're not hurting anyone. Besides, it's really no one's business but theirs.
Too bad it becomes everyone's.
