“Oi, Deku!”
Izuku pauses and looks back because of course he does. Because he’s stupid and weak and hopeful. Because he doesn’t really want to give up on Kaccan. He never has.
“This is your one shot,” Kacchan says, harsh red gaze boring into him. “Once I leave, I’m in the wind, and you’ll never get any justice.”
At that, Izuku makes a strangled sound, caught somewhere between a laugh and a sob.
“What the hell am I supposed to do?” Izuku is crying now, ugly little tears dripping down his face. “I’m just one person. What could I possibly do to fix this?”
“Fuck, Deku,” Kacchan sighs before placing a hand on Izuku’s shoulder and slouching to put them at eye-level. “Where’s your goddamn fight? You always said you wanted to be a hero. What the hell do you have to lose that you haven’t lost already?” -

“Maybe.” At the very least their bickering seems to work as a decent distraction from Kacchan's broken leg, the thrill of an argument bringing color back to Kacchan’s cheeks. “But I also didn’t overshoot my way clear across a roof.”
“Fuck you,” Kacchan spits. “It was icy.”
“And?”
“I wouldn’t have done that if you weren’t—”
“Doing my job?” Izuku smiles, soft, with a playful tilt to his head.

Literally based on two tiny little scenes. I’ve been a fan of Andrew Scott for years now, so when I was watching WUDM, I was automatically super focused when he was onscreen, and I noticed two interesting choices by the cinematographer -- When Simone says she still wants to believe and mocks herself for it, the camera is on Lee, whose face goes from mocking Jud for being a ‘PINO’ to falling, looking mildly remorseful. Then, at the end, in the church, as Benoit is revealing things to the congregation, they both share a glance. He also appears to call her first, before Vera, or Cy, or attempting to call Nat, after Martha calls and tells him about the ‘miracle’. It just made my little fanfic brain turn a little, and I wondered. I’m sure it wasn’t intentional, but …

(Or: in a universe where Bruce becomes aware that someone's looking into the Batman, he goes to the effort to track down Clark Kent. It doesn't play out quite the way either of them expected.)

Sokka hummed. “Years ago, when it was just us travelling together, we came across this fortune teller. I didn’t believe any of that mumbo-jumbo. But then she said that my life would be full of struggle and anguish, most of it self-inflicted.”
It suited Zuko’s life extraordinarily well, he felt. “Sometimes, I feel like I’m the only person in the Fire Nation who has a vision of what it takes for this country to get better.”
Sokka turned to face him, but Zuko looked resolutely forwards. “That can’t be true.”
Zuko turns twenty-five. In spite of his best efforts, the Fire Nation seems to lurch from crisis to crisis. The firebenders have lost their flame, and the situation with the former colonies is only worsening. All the while, he's ill, lonely, and consumed by work.
And on the other side of the country, Sokka has just moved in with one Master Piandao.
