As an artist, he has to admit that, objectively, Iwaizumi is beautiful.
His face isn’t perfectly symmetrical, nor is his body ideally proportioned, but Oikawa never tires of staring at him. In movement or in stillness, Iwaizumi has him captivated, and he doesn’t even know it.
Oikawa experiences a strange kind of artist's block. Iwaizumi is the unsuspecting muse.

It isn't until much, much later that they realize they have each other.
(Or, one's an aspiring orthopedic surgeon, the other's a recently appointed physics lecturer, and both are trying to navigate the trials and tribulations of a world alone.)

Tooru hums, only half-listening. Somewhere along the way, Hajime’s palm has settled itself over the curve of Tooru’s cheek, thumb tracing over the line of his jaw.
Outside, people are probably wandering the streets while huddled in jackets to protect them from the morning chill. Or perhaps they’re sitting in cafés with mugs of steaming coffee to fight the cold, but right now, in this kitchen of their new apartment with the heater still in the stages of kicking in, Tooru feels warmer than anyone else.
“You’re smiling,” Hajime observes.
“So are you,” Tooru says back.
