Kaz absorbs her frenzied words impassively, letting the rattling sounds of the bus fill the silence. Seems like he didn’t even need to go searching for Inej’s lever. She’s perfectly willing to place it right in his hand.
This…agreement would put Inej firmly in his debt, he realizes. Right where he wants her.
Inej seems to take his silence for a negative. She tries again, her eyes silently pleading. “We could help each other. Like—like partners.”
Kaz hums thoughtfully. “Partners in crime?”
“Exactly,” Inej says, her eyes lighting up. “We’ll take Professor Haskell for all he’s worth.”
The decision hardly needs to be made at all.
“Sure,” Kaz says, offhandedly, with a casual shrug for good measure. “The deal is the deal.”
