After Chip literally gets directly struck by lightning while freeing Gillion from the Luxbris Pearl, he goes into cardiac arrest, which as it turns out cannot be healed with magic. Gillion manages to swim the three of them back over to the ship, and Jay puts her Navy training into good use, trying to revive Chip. Her efforts don’t work at first, but then she gets a different idea.

“Yeah, we’re–I’m fine!” Marcy corrected themself, and hoped Sasha didn’t notice their slip up. Too much in their own head they guessed.
“Alright, um, let’s get going then?” He suggested and began closing up bags so nothing would fly off on the trip.
“Yeah…”
They blinked a few more times and took a deep breath and raised the helmet so that it was just above their head. They were only able to partially press it against their hair.'Honestly, Marcy, I like you. Always have. I begged The Core to consider an alternate host but, alas…'

Summary
Before he even felt the impact, he felt the cold. Icy fingers tugging at his clothes and skin and hair, dragging him down deeper into the depths of the bay.
It was so abrupt, so sudden, that he couldn't remember what had happened before. There was only the cold, paralyzing him with shock.
Then the impact itself registered across his nerves and any remaining oxygen in his lungs was gone, forced from his chest as pain split across his back and wings, clouding the water with bubbles. He instinctively tried to breathe in, the frigid water crawling down his throat, then convulsed as no air came.
He didn't know which way was up. He couldn't see anything, could barely move with the cold seizing his muscles, and his mind was frothing with panic. His feathers were heavy with water, keeping him from floating to the surface, and it didn't take him long through the panic to come to the conclusion that he was going to drown if he didn't get air soon.

Summary
This time, Scar's smile visibly twists, turns into something bitter that Grian hasn't seen in his face before.
"It's okay, Grian," he says. "I'm comfortable here, you don't need to do this." Grian blinks, confused.
"I—do what?" Scar raises an eyebrow at him and tucks a strand of hair behind his pointed ear.
"You're being nice," Scar says, discarding a blue fabric. Grian privately agrees, it's gaudy. "And it's sweet, really, but I'm okay."
"Scar, that's not—" Grian shakes his head. "That's ridiculous! I'm not just being nice!"
Scar looks up at him from where he's folded on the floor, grasping at velvet, and he suddenly looks very small and very tired.
"Sure," he says, and the tone makes Grian bristle, despite himself.
"Scar," he says, trying to keep calm. "Why would I do that? When have I ever been nice to anyone just for the sake of it? You're my friend—scratch that, you're our friend!" Scar huffs a little laugh and Grian watches him, helpless. "I—where is this coming from, man?"
(Or, Grian and Scar deal with some of the fallout from Last Life.)
