Summary
What if you had to choose between the story you know and the man you love? Simple, right? But when Melody Bernston is inexplicably dropped into her favorite Tolkien epic (with a strange new power she doesn’t understand), every choice she makes risks changing the history of a world she has come to care about. When the choice is more than Love or Fate, how do you decide?

Summary
In the aftermath of Sauron’s destruction in Eregion at the hands of an alliance of necessity, two peoples strive to settle centuries of mutual hatred in the knowledge that their common foe would one day return.
Nirien, the niece of High-king Gil-Galad, steps forward after months of futile negotiations, offering herself to seal the strained, hapless peace between the Elves and the Uruks, accepting their Lord Father as her betrothed.
Haunted by her own past and feelings of inadequacy, she leaves her home, unaware of what will await her in the newly established Uruk settlement in the wasteland of Mordor.
How will she navigate Uruk politics, strange customs, faithlessness coming from within the ranks of her uncle and her past catching up with her?
What if she is not received by her betrothed as she had hoped to be? Can Nirien live with the prospect of a loveless marriage? Or will she flee to her uncle’s court in shame and with the knowledge she failed to achieve what nobody thought her capable of to begin with…

Summary
Elrond nodded smoothly. “I would be pleased to manage the construction projects in both Lindon and Imladris. If you…would prefer to avoid, ah, similar distractions from the stonemasons' council in the future.”
Gil-galad looked back to the sketch Elaniel had left. He admired the rough outlines, seeing charcoal prints where her fingers had smoothed out dark lines.
You are three weeks too late. I am already more than distracted.
“No need,” Gil-galad said softly. “The distraction is not…wholly unwelcome.” He inhaled and gently set the sketch down, turning to face Elrond fully. “A life without distraction would be tedious, I suspect. I would not know, of course. But I suspect.”
---
Elaniel, a stonemason fleeing the fall of Eregion, makes her way to Lindon - and Gil-galad. Amid the chaos of preparing for a war against Sauron, their growing love is tested by the weight of duty: his to lead armies into peril, hers to rebuild what darkness has destroyed.
The pull of two fëa is strong for the Eldar. But is duty stronger?

Summary
"You are Elrond's wife, are you not?"
"The cultural practices of the Noldor are stranger than I thought," Celebrían muses vaguely, as if talking to herself. "You wouldn't think anyone would name a child 'Elrondswife', but I suppose it takes all kinds of naming traditions to make a world."

Summary
"What Elrond did was simple. He partitioned the layers of his soul and allowed nothing to permeate across them, never let the Lord of Imladris and bearer of Vilya cross into the bossy little elfling Maglor and Maedhros had loved."
A re-embodied Maedhros and Maglor arrive in Imladris with only fragmented memories of their final years — and find that Elrond had built an enormous statue glorifying their redemption, yet omitted their final fates from the histories he wrote as a loremaster.
----------------------
A Return to Imladris fic with elements of magic realism, postcoloniality and the politics of memory, also featuring the youthful sleuths, Legolas and a teenaged Aragorn.Bookmarked by kela
