It's damp from the shower she just finished, dark strands dripping a small wet patch into the back of her sweatshirt. “Actually," she says, "I was coming to complain."
"Oh, good," Dana replies dryly although she doesn't look particularly put out. Her eyes track every little movement of Cassie’s like she doesn’t even realize she’s doing it, constantly taking in new information. "My favorite."

Dana's body reacts before her brain can, anticipation blooming low in her stomach and a softening of her tense muscles that she hasn't earned and doesn't know how to accept. Dana scoffs to hide the provocative images that immediately come to mind. "Hon, you don't have to do that."

“It’s too bad we aren’t here to actually enjoy prom,” Fabian says. “Didn’t even have the time to dance or anything.”
“Do you… want to dance?” Gorgug asks, hesitantly.
Near the end of freshman year, in the shadow of a dragon paused mid-battle thanks to some miraculous chronomancy, Fabian and Gorgug slow dance at prom.
It still takes the better part of a decade for them to start dating.

He's chatting with Mrs. Blackmore from down the street and letting her tiny ratdog drool on his shoes.
All the indignities and exhaustions of life are not actually enough to cancel dinner with Ted, but that doesn't mean Trent is going to bother keeping up appearances. Let the man wear soft pants, for god's sake.
