But Yachi's going on an actual date of her own; Yamaguchi falls ill with a mild case of food poisoning after trying to clear out all the leftovers in his fridge; and Hinata's in Osaka; so Tobio, who's making a short trip to Miyagi for the week, becomes Tsukishima's easiest victim.
Tobio and Tsukishima get dinner together on Valentine's Day. Catastrophe ensues.

Svetlana laughs out loud at this in a way that tells Jackson that this isn't the first time she's heard this type of question. The human part of Motoharu wants to take pity on this poor young man who’s clearly in over his head and completely overwhelmed by the presence of Takayuki— gentle but firm, watchful but forgiving, kind and handsome and lovely Takayuki, yeah that’s good, what a captivating leading man, what an absolute heartthrob— in his home and is finding it difficult to breathe around the incessant pitter-patter of his heart. The writerly part of Motoharu has already taken the reins and has decided that these two lovebirds do not, no, all caps, DO NOT! need a third wheel to shatter the romantic tension.
Motoharu gestures for Hayate to come in closer, and cups a hand around his mouth as he whispers. “If you need me to stay because you find Takayuki so irresistibly handsome that your heart is beating out of your chest, blink twice.”
Q: What does an author do when two of his close friends are hopelessly in love with each other?
A: Write up a romance for them, of course.

He was perched on one of the bar stools with his entire torso slumped across the counter and his arms extended in front of him, hands balled into fists on the granite. His head was buried between his shoulders and he didn’t sound like he was breathing.
Yuna didn’t say anything for a solid thirty seconds. Alarms blaring in her head, she silently tossed her purse to the side and beelined for her son with her hands out to comfort him.

Shane is still in bed, spending his last hour before practice clicking endlessly through YouTube when he gets the notification. With no one there to see, he lets the smile settle comfortably as it spreads, and switches apps. He’s about to shoot down Ilya’s latest attempt at desperate seduction when another text arrives.
I will play next game with no feet because cold took them.
This... was new.
Shane expects texts from Ilya to bring him to his knees. They do, but in another way instead.
