Noelle blinked.
Kris was standing outside the door, hair and shoulders dusted with snow, looking about as miserable as a dog left out in the elements. They didn't say a word. There was no explanation, no awkward laugh or request to be let in. Noelle just stared at them a while as they stared at the porch beneath their feet.
Finally, they cocked their head and pointed back over their shoulder with a thumb, as if to say, “Let's take a walk?”
Noelle and Kris share a moment on the first Christmas Eve they'll spend apart.

His eyes travelled around the familiar features–just older, but the same; thick eyebrows, long eyelashes, and that tooth, peeking over his lip even though his mouth was closed. Till’s chest heaved, and he pulled off his gloves so that his shaking hands could cradle the face, thumbing underneath tired eyes.
This had to be a dream, and he was going to wake up soon–any second now. But time only stretched on, and he was still there in that downpour, hovered over his unconscious body.
“Ivan?” Till squeaked out–a name he hadn’t said aloud in nine years. To anyone else he was always that guy, that brat, that… feeling I didn’t understand until you were gone.

"... How did you manage that?" Till asks after a few more bites. One better than the last. When one is sweet, the next is spicy, and the more he chews it before swallowing, he feels more of the seasonings come through.
Ivan looks up, still chewing. "What do you mean?" He had eaten his eomma's tteokbokki before as well; even praised it, and yet he doesn't understand?
Till takes another bite, a delicious comfort for the pang in his chest. "It tastes like... It tastes just like the one my eomma always made," he almost mumbles.
Ivan cooks tteokbokki for Till.

Ivan’s eyes bored into him, emptiness shifting into something more scorching, searching. “Memories grow sweeter with time,” he hummed. “Even if that is true, we should leave it behind, shouldn’t we?”
