Summary
This is probably more of a remix than a rewrite. Mostly the same, slightly more body horror and a whole lot of platonic cuddling and literal sleeping together.
Savanaclaw is about 75% done. The first chapter is up. I'm hoping I at least made it a little more interesting. Mind the tags.

Epel bites down a light hiss at a particular tug on a knot. The brush effectively combing it out within the relentless movements of the soft bristles despite the carefully abrasive manner its performed. Just shy of rough, a show of disapproval.
"If you weren't so insistent on behaving in a way that's unfit, unlike, and unrespectable for Individuals like us, I wouldn't have to be fighting against your delicate locks."
He sits still against the ache building on his scalp with indignation wearing his hands heavy on his lap.
“There.” Soft hands card through his hair, almost gentle despite his harsh expression. “Much better, isn't it?”

Deuce tenses when he comes close, they all do. In a motion done so close-knit, akin to something of routine or of instinct. It's enough to make him stop.
All of the housewarden behind him pause in their movements as they take in their expressions, ones they've never seen, not once, before.

So he decides to ask Nirei for help, and thus begins his attempts to surprise the boy into saying yes.
“What can I say, I love it, it's my favorite hobby.”
“Find yourself a new one, you can't keep doing the same thing after so long.”
He shakes his head. “Never, you're going to have to put up with me for years.”
“Is that a proposal I hear?” Suo opens his eye in surprise, and Sakura bites his lower lip, suppressing the smile that threatens to escape.
Or the five times Suo tries to propose, and the one time he succeeds without planning anything.
