The boy turned his head. “She’s never spoken.”
“Like, ever? But what about her friends?”
The boy looked over at Nancy. “I’ve never seen her with any.”
Three glass-shattering bombshells all at once. Nancy hadn’t spoken since the second grade, possibly earlier. Nancy didn’t have any friends. And the third bombshell, which happened in Robin’s head, being Robin might be the only person in this entire school to hear Nancy speak.

“Come on, Robin. The Demogorgon, the tire, the- the…” Nancy trailed off, the desperate look in her eye fading into disappointment. “Robin… I keep reliving my death.”

Summary
Of course she didn’t know what it meant back then, just chalked it up to lucky guesses and quick reflexes—logical and easily explainable. It stopped being simple luck the night she was patrolling with Robin and Will—checking out the location from her most recent vision—and a demodog launched out of the darkness exactly as she had seen in her head. It stopped being a case of basic quick reflexes when that extra breath of time stretched out and slowed down around her until everything was silent and still and she could walk up to the creature and shove her pistol into its gaping maw while it leapt in creeping slow motion towards her friends—towards Robin. She pulled the trigger and it dropped dead to the ground with a hole in the back of its skull before the other two even knew it was there, confused as hell about how Nancy just seemed to shift ten feet to the right instantly. Nancy Wheeler had never really been quite normal, but now she knew it.

Or, Nancy has some new abilities, Hawkins is locked in quarantine, new monsters show up, Vecna has a terrible plan, and Nancy has to make some terrible choices to figure out what it all means for her and everyone around her.Bookmarked by inxqv

Robin wouldn’t let Vecna take Nancy. Nancy was good, she was kind and bright and brave and whatever hellish world existed beneath them could not have her. Robin prayed like she had never prayed. She wasn’t sure who she was praying to… maybe the universe.
Because she’d be happy if Nancy lived through this, married Steve, had a bunch of kids and forgot about Robin. She’d be okay with it. Because she needed this girl to continue living.

“I’ll decide that.” She says, breath fanning against her face. Nancy shudders, eyes drifting down and coming right back up again.

Nancy has twenty-four hours to save herself, and she can't help but think that Vecna is right about what he whispers in her ear. Robin, however, seems determined to prove her wrong.

Summary
She needed her to live. In this moment, she needed her more than she had ever needed anyone before. They needed more time. They needed time for Robin to figure out what she was doing wrong, and to fix it. They needed time to form inside jokes and have sleepovers and talk for hours on end. She would let Nancy put her in that horrible dress from Pennhurst time and time again, give her makeovers and put makeup on Robin’s face and she wouldn’t complain one bit no matter how much she hated makeup. They needed time to be alive, together. But for that, Nancy needed to live. Please, she needed to live.
Robin’s voice was small now as she forced her words out through a growing lump in her throat. Her whole body was trembling, her hand shaking around Nancy’s delicate fingers. She could hear muffled echoes of Steve yelling for her from the top of the stairs.
“Please get through this, Nance. Please.”OR

Unlike Robin, Nancy has been raised in the wizarding world, surrounded by stories and tales of Hogwarts and the years that her parents had there - she knows exactly what Slytherin is about, and what it means that she has been sorted there. Unbidden and uninvited, a hazy memory of her older cousin flutters through her brain, an image of him whispering to her in hushed tones about how many dark wizards and witches came from Slytherin, about how everyone from that house that he had ever met was an absolute bastard who was only out for themselves. Nancy thinks of Mike, of Holly. Wonders what it means about her that she would still do anything for them even now. Not a Slytherin, not a Wheeler.
She’s not sure if she wants to know where that leaves her.

One by one, she sheds her socks. Rolls up the legs of the oversized sweatpants she borrowed and sucks in a breath. Then she dips her toes in, and she waits.

Only this time, Nancy doesn’t know what it is she’s waiting for.
Maybe it’s for the pool before her to come alive and consume her like some horrid beast. Maybe it’s for the relief that had never come earlier to finally catch up and take the weight from her tired bones. Maybe it’s for the tears that never seem to fall anymore because she’s all dried out. Maybe, maybe, maybe.
After their final face-off with Vecna, Nancy learns that many things end just as they began when she finds herself drawn toward Steve Harrington's pool. But can she finally find the sense of peace she longs for and wash everything away that the Upside Down left behind, or will the water claim her too?
