“About time you showed up,” Steve calls to the man on the black dragon’s back.
“Hello to you too, sweetheart.” Eddie grins, steers Hellfire close enough that he can leap from his saddle to Steve’s, lithe and delicate.
Steve’s heart lurches into his mouth, despite knowing Hellfire would never let his rider fall. “You know I hate it when you do that.”
Eddie smirks, leans in, kisses him. “No, you don’t.”

“You can just sit there and look pretty, how’s that? Won’t be hard for you,” Eddie replies, smooth.
Steve’s cheeks heat up again.

A traumatic brain injury leads to a downward spiral for Steve. He's dropped from the Blackhawks, his recovery is slow and rocky, and he's got no idea what to do with his life.
Enter his old friends, Eddie and Dustin, who spend their time poking around decrepit haunted locations filming for their YouTube channel. Steve doesn't really believe in all this ghost stuff, but he's got nothing better to do than join them.
Besides, he might just be ever-so-slightly head-over-heels for Eddie Munson.

Summary
Eddie glances between Steve and his mountain of blankets. One of the alpha’s hoodies in mixed in there, the fading, soft one that Steve was constantly borrowing.
Brushing a hand across the blankets, Steve adjusts them again, fixing them where Eddie had moved them.
Realization dawns on Eddie’s face. “Sweetheart, you’re nesting.”
“Huh?”
“You’re in pre-heat.”
“No, I’m…I’m sick.” Steve’s eyebrows furrow, and he fists a hand in Eddie’s hoody squished up against his thigh.

It's Steve's first time in pre-heat, and he's miserable.
Luckily, Eddie's there to take care of him.

Summary
It all starts with Eddie having a terrible month, missing his uncle on a sad and lonely Christmas Eve, and a card sent on a whim to a stranger now living in his childhood home.
Somehow, it ends with Eddie spending New Year's in the arms of Steve, the unbelievably sweet man who received his card and made it his mission to find Eddie via the power of the internet.
In the middle of it all, the winter holidays come and go, but the story isn't about that; it's about life that keeps on going between the cracks of holiday cheer. It's a story of texting for miles, processing grief, accepting kindness, attempting self-growth, falling in love so hard and fast it feels almost impossible, and a very cute emotional support cat.Bookmarked by icole17

“You should come back with me.”
“Whaddaya mean?” Steve says, around a mouthful of pizza.
“To New York.”
There isn’t music playing, but if there were, this is when the record would scratch and everyone would freeze. Steve lowers his slice of pizza and rubs self-consciously at the red sauce at the corner of his mouth.
“Huh?”
“You should come back with me to New York,” Eddie repeats.
“To visit? Or, like… to live there?”
In which Eddie has feelings about Steve's baseball coach khakis, dating long-distance, and what the future holds for their definitely-alive, definitely not doomed-by-canon relationship.
(Basically the Steddie version of the Hollanov cottage conversation, wherein Eddie is Shane and plans their future for an oblivious Steve.)
