    Lan Zhan has never been a man of many words. They come few and far between, like tiny pearls to be held and cherished in the palm of his hand, and then stored away to be admired later. It’s with great pride that Wei Wuxian discovers that it is only around him that Lan Zhan speaks the most, to him that he has given the most pearls.

    But even then, conversation for them has always been more than words alone. Conversation, from the moment their gazes first met, has been about the little things. A glance here, a brush of the hand there. For even after everything together, the nature of a man can not be changed, nor would Wei Wuxian ever wish for it.

    Certainly, he thinks he might die if he had to sit in silence for the rest of his life, but he is content to fill the silence with a steady melody of chatter, as if he were the guqin, and Lan Zhan the player. For he would not speak so freely and for such an extended period of time were it not for those gazes, or the gentle strumming of Lan Zhan’s patient fingertips.

    All the same, Lan Zhan is a quiet man, and it is specifically this silence that teaches Wei Wuxian just how many words can be contained in just a single flower.
