Kakashi almost lost his balance on the windowsill as he spluttered. “I do not.”
Naruto gave him a slow, suspicious look and then turned back to Iruka. “That’s stranger danger, Iruka-sensei. You should be careful.”

All it really took to reveal Kakashi’s face was a loud explosion and some barrier seals. Really, it was amazing Iruka hadn't managed it sooner.

Summary
Kakashi was an enigma that Iruka wishes to understand, if Kakashi would allow him to. However, Iruka knows he doesn't have a chance of knowing and understanding who Kakashi is, can't get close to his heart because someone else already occupies it—someone else whom Iruka had no way of competing against, for Kakashi was in love with his best friend.
"Iruka-sensei, if I said I liked you, would you believe me?"
Iruka's not a fool. But for a moment, he was.
