There are silver streaks in Kurosaki’s hair. His expression isn’t set in the permanent frown Grimmjow’s used to—he’s not wearing much of an expression at all, face blank in a studied manner—but there are still faint lines on his forehead and softer, sweeter crinkles at the corners of his eyes and mouth. He’s broader in the shoulders and chest, and the lines of his body have softened.
This isn’t the boy he left behind.
“You’re old,” Grimmjow hears himself say.
Kurosaki’s careful non-expression breaks open into a crooked smile. His eyes glitter; they, at least, are that familiar warm brown, which soothes Grimmjow in a way he’s not keen on acknowledging.
“Older,” Kurosaki says. “And immortal ghost twunks don’t get to talk about my age.”

As they broke into the ship, sliding quietly along a shockingly understaffed storage deck, no one thought to grab Lance. To touch base, maybe mention that the priority was the prisoners of higher standing with bigger pockets, which required a level of secrecy and nonchalance. And this requirement would need him to contain his emotions throughout the mission, even if his teammates were to fall or get injured. Even if he found Keith and wasn’t pleased with his treatment. He would need to remain calm. The monarchs were the priority.
This lack of forethought led to what is considered one of the worst intergalactic shipwrecks of all time. After all, Keith Kogane was always Lance’s first priority.

After Keith is abducted, Lance fights to get on a Blades mission to break into a Galran ship imprisoning hundreds. He keeps his own mission to himself. Step 1: follow orders until he can’t. Step 2: find Keith in the prison and break him out. Step 3: kill anything that slows him down.

Lance is eyeing him like he’s a puzzle, the magenta tinge on his cheek from the setting purple sun reminds Keith of something buried so deep that he’s almost startled at the memory of the smell of gunfire, the hoarseness of Lance’s voice, and the clasping of their hands together. The day Lance woke up from a near death coma to make the shot that saved them from Sendak.
“What do I smell like?” It’s a pointed question, like Lance would love it if Keith could tell him his cologne or his lotion by name, and he could, but he doesn’t. He answers more truthfully.
“Home.” A simple confession, yet all encompassing.
Lance doesn’t stop looking at him, but the corner of his mouth twitches into a smile.
