Summary
"D'you know Eddie?" Buck asks. His eyes are huge and earnest. It's not often these days that Eddie gets to see him this unguarded. Just needed to get him stoned out of his mind on painkillers, apparently. He's probably got a prescription in that stack of papers Eddie took. Maybe Eddie can run out and fill it for him while he sleeps. "He's my best—my best friend."
Eddie's heart does something traitorously squishy that he hopes doesn't show on his face. "Feeling's mutual, bud. Come on, lie down, sleep it off for a little bit, okay?"

Maddie sips her tea, then eyes him thoughtfully, then says, "How have you been doing?"
"I'm fine," Chris says.
"Tired of people asking about how you're doing?" she says knowingly. "I was."
He glances at her again. The scar on her throat is faded to a pinkish pallor, half obscured by her hair. He doesn't know what it looked like when it was fresh, because he was in Texas when that happened, but it must have been bad.

The door swings open, and Hen tilts her head back, expecting it to be Karen, or maybe one of the kids. Instead, it's Eddie. He's got his own cup of tea, smelling faintly of hibiscus and honey, and he smiles at her, tilts his head toward the other chair. "Mind if I join you?"
"Go ahead," Hen says, and he circles around to sit in the other chair, the side table between them, cradling his cup between his hands like he's warming his fingers, though it's not cold out at all. Karen wouldn't let her stay out here if it were.
