Summary
Three weeks after Pangi stumbles home, half-dead, things fall back into relative normalcy. They don't talk about it. They put a potted-plant over the blood-stain in their carpet, and they don't talk about it.
The two of them never intend to get into any trouble at all, really. They don't ever go looking for any these things, those aforementioned things just happen to find them.
The body they find inside of an abandoned building is one of those things.
Worse, the body has a pulse.
Even worse than that, Pili thinks he might look familiar.

Summary

The dampness of his hair, and the chill that the rain sends through him, is a reminder—the day that he and Zam talked about home—the cold of the ice castle on his skin; the shared itch for something more; the way Ros and Aimsey looked at them when they mentioned the killing, and the violence, and the—
They would not love him if they understood him.
The orbital strike is to get rid of the corruption. Nothing else. If he believes it, then it's true.

Summary
"You're not the right colour," is all Pangi can say, choking on the words. It's the only thing that he knows is definitely wrong.
"What? Are you, like, drunk or something?"
Pangi's axe is slipping slowly out of his hand. It's not—no, he's not crazy. This is wrong. This is all wrong.
"You're not purple," he whispers, stepping backwards, "Why aren't you purple?"
"Why would I be purple?" Pili asks, incredulously, because that's who it is standing at the bottom of the stairs. Alive.

Summary
"A little more time," Lukey begs. "I need you to hold on a little longer."
Pangi pauses, and he nearly cries. He wants to run his hands over the planes of un-touched skin that still remains, map out the feeling with his fingers. Maybe memorize it by touch alone, hold onto the memory as it gets worse—yearn to feel the whole of him as he's supposed to be, un-corrupted, un-marked.
"Okay," unimaginably quiet, "Alright. I will."
He's lying, they both know.

Summary
Dying follows in the same footsteps as living; it's a sad, miserable thing, and she is always left disappointed. She tries desperately to hold on to what remains, to what's left that's still her own, but it always slips through her fingers—grains of sand following the turn of the hour glass and disappearing from beneath her feet. What's left is nothing but her palms, capable of so much but never able to prove it. What's left is the cold, empty space where there had once been something living.
All of this is to say, Lizzie never wins.
At the end of the world, Jimmy is all she has left.

Summary
The awkward kid standing in front of him has to be, what, twenty five? Twenty six, tops. Hardly a kid at all, really, but Jeez, does Bdubs ever feel like an old geezer looking at him.
“Etho?” he says experimentally.
The kid blinks over at him owlishly. “Bdubs?” he says and, yeah, that’s Etho’s voice alright. Quiet and unsure, and softer than it’s been in years, but definitely, definitely Etho.
