Summary
Tadashi takes a bullet for the love of his life. Ainosuke gets a crash course in what love really is.
Gone is the mask he usually wears in public. Those stupid eyebrows look stupider when they’re arched down like that. “Why are you lying there?” he’s asking now. “I told you to get up.”
Tadashi tries to speak but his body fails him the most frustrating way. This had better kill him, he decides, or it is the most embarrassing way he could possibly have gone. The most useless. The most stupid. There are cameras, he realizes, distantly. This will be recorded. He can’t be this sad.
Mustering every bit of agonized strength left in him, he lifts his arm, reaches, but his coordination is shot. He’s aiming for Ainosuke’s cheek but hits his lapel instead and grips it, because if he doesn’t, his arm will fall again.
“Ainosuke,” he starts, tastes blood, stops. Ainosuke leans closer. “You really are stupid."

“You get along well with Yuki,” he says softly, not looking away from the eggs he’s frying for lunch. “Don’t you?”
“Well enough, I guess,” Nico says, finally, looking up in time to meet Haiji’s gaze when he turns around.
“It’s good he has you to look out for him,” Haiji says finally, features softening as he smiles, lips curling up gently. “You’re good for each other.”
Nico stares at him for a moment, letting the words settle around him. It’s not how he would have phrased his relationship with Yuki, half antagonism and half snarky camaraderie, but something about Haiji’s words rings true nonetheless.

Before even a sound has escaped him, the figure turns and Kakeru bites down on the name before it slips his lips. It’s not him.
Now in his final year at Kansei University, Kakeru is busier than ever. He's trying to finish his degree while taking his new team to victory, but he can't help but feel like something, or maybe someone, is missing from his life.
