Paintbrush didn’t mean to.
It was an accident!! They swore, they didn’t mean to.
But.. accidents still have consequences.
A lab, it wasn’t even their own, yet it was their fault. Everyone knew this.
Paintbrush blamed themself too, so obviously they were the culprit!!… right??
But.. was it really Paintbrush? Or is everyone (including Paintbrush themself) just basing their answer off the surface.
Until then, Paintbrush had a goal. Help the one they had seemingly hurt regain emotional ability.
Shattering really takes away emotion, huh? To teach emotion (or, reteach) you have to be emotionally vulnerable.. so, Paintbrush needs to prove that they didn’t hurt their best friend and they need to help said best friend regain emotion.. and other forms of communication. In order for this? Emotional vulnerability!..
And God knows, it's hard to be vulnerable sometimes. -

You look at me in the reflection of the mirror when I come in and I smile at your own reflection in response. It makes the ends of your eyes soften and you look younger than you should be. It makes you look older than you are.
“Why are we staring at ourselves?” I ask, standing behind you. You blink at the question and I make a funny face in the mirror and it is so easy for both of us to pretend like we are a few days younger. It is so easy for me to scrunch my lips up like a duck and pretend like the world is not a rotten place, and we have been created for a reason to be something other than rotten people.
You shrug your shoulders, but your hand comes up to the bags underneath your eyes and leaves them shiny. “‘Dunno.”

Summary
When Inanimate Insanity season 1 ends silently and without fanfare, Mephone 4 lacks the funding to create season 2, and the competitors fade off into the world back to their own lives.
But when a malicious force decides it's time for a new game to begin, they're suddenly ripped from their homes and forced to start a new in a far more hostile new world.

This is an AU where Mephone 4 did not generate the contestants, and they are just people who competed on an obscure competitor show that didn't hit the mainstream. It takes place post season 1, with season 2 contestants, but not in a contest manner.
For now this is written in the style of separate smaller one shots that focuses on a different story each chapter.
