Summary
Was there ever a more conducive environment for strangeness? Leitners circulate in the library system like demons through damnation. Hallways twist into impossible configurations. Above everything, a man watches, green-eyed and pensive, all-seeing. Boys who have been teenagers since the nineties repeat the same grade and watch their teachers’ eyes fog over with memories unshaping themselves.
Or: Jonathan Sims (fifteen years of age), a watchful school, the losing of his lonesomeness, and a whole library of books older than your great-grandfather’s dick.

Summary
‘No,’ said Judge Roberta Field, over the top of her pasta salad.
‘Good afternoon, Your Honour,’ said Elias Bouchard. He smiled. It was a benign smile, like they always were. And yet it was the sort of smile that she knew brought horrors she couldn’t begin to anticipate.
Her eyelid twitched. ‘I am retiring in three weeks,’ she hissed.
~
Judge Roberta Field is retiring early. No more long days. No more screaming couples. No more family drama. Just a lovely cottage in Scotland. Life is going swimmingly.
Unfortunately for her, her two least favourite regulars decide to stop by for one last hurrah.

Summary
Judge Roberta Field eyed the next case on the docket balefully. She’d known it was coming. As soon as she’d seen it appear in her schedule she’d cursed and debated “breaking a leg”, since it had been too late to have another baby as a way out. She’d convinced herself that was too extreme, however, and lulled herself into a false sense of security that she must be misremembering and it wouldn’t be that bad. So she’d decided to keep working and let it happen. And now it was here.
The Bouchard-Lukas divorce.
Again.
It had been three years since the last one, which had to be a new record.
--
Elias and Peter are divorcing again. In trying to decide the division of their marital property, they need some witnesses to assist their respective cases. This is unfortunate for Jon and Martin, who would really rather be elsewhere.
