He continued kneading almost on auto-pilot, humming under his breath to himself. The kitchen was pleasantly warm, thanks to the sun streaming in the windows and the work he was putting into this dough.
“My,” Zane mused aloud, after a moment. He didn’t look up from his task. “It certainly is a lot of work to make noodles all by myself. If only I had a helper.”
He smiled to himself as Lloyd finally crept around the corner, tufts of blonde hair poking from his hood.
“You’re making noodles?”

“Soulmarks?” Kai repeated from across the table. “Why are you thinking about soulmarks? You’re, like, the only person here who’s actually found theirs.”
Nya shrugged, knowing there was no way she was going to say what she’d actually been thinking in front of everyone. “I don’t know. Why are you guys so confused by the fact I just so happened to be thinking about soulmarks?”
Cole shrugged back. “We don’t talk about them that much, I guess,” he said, and that was that. But there was something about Kai’s loud incredulousness and Cole’s quiet dismissal that intrigued Nya. Maybe she was onto something. And when Nya had a gut feeling, when she had a mystery to solve, she didn’t quit easily.

Nya doesn't have any reason to care about soulmarks, having been years since she's found her own soulmate, but a sudden realization changes everything - the unexpected knowledge that Cole shares a soulmark with none other than Nya's own brother. From there, Nya is sent spiraling into a world of scheming, suddenly determined to find a way to bring the two together before the universe can run its course.
Why? Well, there's not really anything else to do, is there?
