Summary
Alaric is dark, this time of year. Moonlight from morning until the deep witching hours of the night, twinkling stars that mock them from on-high. The air smells like cold; incoming snow, storms on the horizon.
"Do you take comfort in the thought of our pet idiot watching us fight and fuck, Mazoku?" Hiei asks, his voice raising high with genuine amusement. "My brother by law?"

Summary
“Where is The Impossibility?” They ask, in crisp, flat, almost computerized sounding, British English. “Where is the Vector?
“Where is Gray?”
Grad student Mason Queensbrogh's life will never be the same, after a bunch of aliens from a comic book show up with guns blazing, looking for him. But he's spent a lifetime fighting for what he has, and he's not about to stop now. Nothing's gonna stop him-- not killer aliens, or budding cosmic superpowers, or even Five Hargreeves.
If only Five Hargreeves would get the fuck out of the way.

Summary
It's not that Five is "obsessed with the apocalypse". He's not a junkie chasing an adrenaline high of danger. It's just that the public's shared hallucinogenic memory of a timeline that shouldn't exist is weird, and so are the cross-dimensional artifacts, and so are the fully formed human beings that keep falling into Five's lap. Figuratively.
"Okay, man, just think about it," Diego interjects, loudly, pointing at Five with the mouth of his bottle. "Remaking the world's gotta be a messy process. It's not that surprising that there's just some weird cracks, a few spots that Dad didn't get super well. It's not a big deal."
"Just some weird cracks, he says," Five says dryly. "'Some weird cracks', like the man squatting in my apartment. The man I found unconscious in an alleyway with no memories. Weird cracks like those?"
Said man grins and waves a hand cheerfully, his inhuman orange eyes glowing eerily in the bright morning light. When nobody waves back, he reaches his hand to awkwardly paw at the feathery hair at the nape of his neck. His smile goes from cheery to awkward, and he whines, "You act like it's my fault, or something!"

Summary
Ven’s a fighter who can’t fight anymore; Vanitas is wondering why everyone in his social circle seems to be talking about how “chivalrous” he is, lately. Between Ven lost adrift in a whole new world and Vanitas smelling blood in the water— it’s a Pennsic that’ll go down in infamy. Mostly because they can’t seem to leave each other alone; nor do they want to. Everyone else will just have to catch up.

Ignis’ eyes go wide, and his skin goes milky pale. “I forgot something,” he sounds terrified, his usually refined voice full of audible dread. “Oh, god, I forgot something, didn’t I?”
Or, Leon, Ignis, reflecting on events passed, a cat, chaos, and being in love.

Summary
“As long as I’m alive, you don’t get to die.” He wipes at the blood pooling on his collarbone, surrounding a set of swelling teethmarks. He flicks his fingertips at Ven, and cold drops of Darkness ichor spray against his cheeks. “You wanna die so bad?” Vanitas goads, lips pulled into a wicked, superior smirk. “Kill me, first.”
He must know. He must know that Ven can’t do that. Won’t. Can’t.
Or: when the boy originally called Ventus split his own Heart a second time, Vanitas and Ven find refuge in a soft Heart of kindness. Too bad that they aren't soft; and too bad, indeed, that they can't stop falling directly into each other. In ways that hurt, and ways that... don't.

Summary
“Hey guys,” Ven’s voice sounds like a gong, thin and reedy and forced from his grinning teeth. “Has anyone,” he seems almost breathless, and everytime he takes in air the sound seems to fill the room, bouncing off of every wall. “Seen Vanitas lately?”

Summary
“You have to be in control, Vanitas,” Master Eraqus had said, three years ago now, eyes stony with seriousness. “You can never, ever let your heart run wild.”
The boy beams wide. His cheeks are ruddy with a youthful vigor that Vanitas lacks, and his green eyes sparkle like gems. There’s something bright, about his eyes, about his teeth. Like they’re backlit by the setting sun, just enough to make them gleam.
Blonde hair bounces as he sticks his hand out to shake. “I’m Ventus!”
Or: when the boy originally called Ventus was split, Xehanort left a comatose Dark Heart in the Land of Departure, and trained his newest Light to be a weapon of the Dark. Ventus-Vanitas roleswap.

Summary
Jay resumes throwing the hacky-sack, the grainy thump a background rhythm to such a sweltering night on the Isle of the Lost. He says, with wry humor, “Besides. We’re not going to fucking college.”
Mal throws her head back and cackles, as if the mere idea is too hilarious to even contain. Maybe it is; the Isle’s worst Villain Kids, going to some fancy school in the heart of Auradon.
Or:
Ben does not become king at sixteen. Still, one way or another, the innocent leave the Isle. Unfortunately for everyone, nothing is that simple.

Summary
People cheer for him as he walks by. They hold up their drinks— both alcoholic and non— in toast when he waves. The band stops playing when they see him, pointing him out and whistling, saying our favorite royal, am I right people? To raucous applause.
He learns— through the merry lips of people celebrating— that he’s opened two homeless shelters, three food banks, two clothing charities, and a tutoring center, for school-aged children.
All done through the "hard work" of his "assistant" who's, as they say, "working on Leona's behalf". One woman, dressed in makeup way too dark for the desert they all live in, whispers, "He even gives out money, if you ask. Is it your money?"

“If you wanted a battle,” she says, eyeing the corpses littering the surrounding area, trying and failing to ignore the stench of burning flesh. “I could have arranged one for you.”
“It would not have been enough,” he says, chewing slowly. “I needed to test myself. Push myself to my baser instincts. I needed to make myself survive.”

Summary
There is a man, with hair like sunlight and eyes with the acid glow of Mako, leaning casually on the desk. He’s sipping wine out of President ShinRa’s favorite cup like he owns it. And he is covered, toe to tip, in a scarlet smattering of blood.
He stares like a hunter watching his game; like a predator sizing up its prey; his eyes are like a pin, and Sephiroth is a butterfly, stuck to the corkish pinboard, wings still desperately fluttering. Fluttering the way his pulse has rapidly begun to flutter in his throat.
Or;
Cloud goes back in time. Sephiroth comes to understand fear.

Summary
“I don’t know why I agreed to this,” Mal says.
“Yes, you do,” Carlos replies, hefting the duffel bag over his shoulder. It clinks dangerously as he moves, and she eyes it with suspicion.
“Okay, revise: I don’t know what we’re doing here.”
Carlos meets her eye, gaze as sharp as she’s ever seen it. He smirks like an Isle boy, wide and wicked, and says, “Science.”
