Summary
“Shane?” Ilya asks again. “What happened?” His gloveless hand twitches and he lifts it a fraction of an inch towards Shane.
Shane tosses his own gloves to the ice and reaches forward, lacing their fingers together. “You took a bad hit,” he says, gritting his teeth against the fear clawing at his guts. “Flipped headfirst into the ice. Are you okay?”
Ilya groans in answer and squeezes his hand, though Shane can't tell if he meant to do that or not.
Suddenly, there are people all around them. Shane shifts protectively close before he realizes it’s the medical team.
“Hollander, get back to your bench,” someone says, but there’s no way Shane’s going. Even if he wanted to, Ilya’s gripping his hand like a lifeline, eyes finally locked on Shane’s face. Shane isn’t leaving him.

Summary
“Ilya,” He spoke the second he knew his words would be heard, eager to get the burning question out, “Are you alright?”
There was a pause, a concerning one, before Ilya simply hummed, “Fine.”
But that wasn’t enough. Shane knew, could tell by the glaze over his eyes, his delayed, unfocused mannerisms.
Play should be stopped. Ilya was clearly concussed.

Summary
The urge to not leave with words unspoken encouraged Shane to open his mouth again, “But… I called you didn’t I?”
Ilya’s gaze flicked to him, bright blue eyes shining wide, “Does Rose Landry know you are safe?” He asked, changing the subject.
“I didn’t text her,” Shane replied, shaking his head. “Not… anything about me drinking.”
“Your parents?”
“No. I didn’t text anyone else. Just you.” He clarified, needing to get that point across. Didn’t that mean anything? That out of all the people Shane could have called, he’d chosen Ilya.
