He heard Sam’s steps approach him, then felt arms gently slink around his waist from behind, and he smiled a little. Sam hummed, leaning up to brush a kiss to his temple.
“I take it none of this blood is yours?” he said by way of greeting, his voice low.
Bucky bit his lip. “Some of it,” he admitted, and turned around.
Sam sucked in a sharp breath. “Jesus, Buck,” he breathed, his concerned gaze flickering over Bucky’s face. “You alright?”
Shrugging, Bucky averted his eyes. “Bruised and battered ‘s all, sweetheart.”

He was smirking as Bucky looked at him longingly— but definitely not pouting, because Bucky Barnes didn’t pout, no matter what Sam may claim. “You really did miss me, huh?” Sam breathed, softly, fondly, almost as if in wonder, bringing a hand up to cup Bucky’s cheek.
“Yeah,” he mumbled, staring into Sam’s eyes like there was nowhere else he'd rather look.

When he moved to the side of the bed, Sam–beautiful, stubborn, headstrong Sam–turned to face him. He let Bucky tilt his face up, lips parting when Bucky put his thumb to the lower one.
“What do you need from me?” Bucky wondered, head ticking to one side.
Sam mimicked the movement, but in the opposite direction because he was contrary. Bucky’s thumb slid away and Bucky missed the warmth instantly. “Not a damn thing, Barnes,” he breathed.
“What do you need, Sammy?” he nettled again, hand stilling for a breath. “Just tell me. Just ask for it. I’ll give it to you.”
“Nothing,” Sam insisted again. Then he added, “You smell like cheap bourbon,”
“Cheap bourbon?” Bucky asked, affronted but too damn turned on to sound anything other than breathy and desperate. “I don’t buy cheap alcohol.”Series

Summary
Slowly, inexorably, the twine ball kept rolling. It smashed into the wooden gazebo supports, which cracked and buckled on impact like they were made out of styrofoam. The ball bounced down down the gazebo steps and picked up speed as it rolled into the street.
“Oh shit,” Sam said.
The purple-stained side of the ball burst into flames.
“Oh shit,” Steve said.
The twine ball barreled forward, burning merrily, now headed straight for the armored SUV that had been advancing up the street. The agents inside took one look at the flaming wrecking ball heading towards them and bailed out, forced to abandon their cover to avoid the most ignominious death in Hydra history.
(That time Steve was so bad at confessing his feelings that the Winter Soldier had to come in from the cold to do it for him. In which Steve has the suaveness of a human tire fire, Sam has the patience of a goddamn saint, and Bucky has had it up to here with watching them dance around each other.
This was supposed to be a quick, goofy road trip romcom, but then I tripped over a lot of Sam and Steve and Bucky feelings, so now it’s a long, mostly-goofy road trip romcom. With a few explosions.)
