Summary

Grace Madison is a successful witch doctor. People across the country talk about how she can get rid of any curses, including Wenona's. The belief that all witches fear her for her cures means she is the one who must live with Wenona to make sure she won't escape before the execution date.
Grace doesn't want to do this, but no one else will. She convinces herself that she can force Wenona to obey, but Wenona brings an unexpected challenge—one that not only makes her want Wenona to live but also makes her want Wenona to live alongside her. The worst part is that Wenona used no magic to change Grace's thinking.

"That!" Damon snapped, and Kai startled as he gestured impatiently to the ceiling. He was too keyed up to feel even slightly bad. “Are you deaf?! Tozu’s using recordings of my conversations with her to get to me!”
There was a moment of tense silence, where the remnants of Damon’s shouts — more hysterical and desperate than he would ever admit to — reverberated off the walls. Kai’s face had fallen, and now he just stared. It danced on Damon’s nerves like nothing else. He was about to launch into more yelling when Kai brought his knuckle down from his eye.
“Um,” he began, stilted. “The intercom isn’t even on, though.”
