This time, when the Chicago center leaned in close enough that their visors nearly brushed, his tone had changed.
What he said then wasn’t about age. It was low, deliberate, and unmistakable, loud enough that only the circle could hear it.
Troy heard it from the weak side. The defenseman behind them stiffened. Ilya caught every syllable.
The word sat there between them, ugly and intentional.
Troy stiffened at the edge of the play. Ilya’s shoulders locked immediately.
Shane didn’t move at first.
He leaned closer instead, visor nearly touching the other man’s, and spoke quietly enough that it didn’t carry beyond them.
“You say that again,” he said, voice steady and edged with something heavier than irritation, “and you won’t finish this fucking game.”
Or when Shane is wound tight after a bad media interview, and the Centaurs' opposing teams Center makes him crack.

“I’m still figuring things out,” Luca says shyly, “but, um… I’m… definitely not straight.”
Scott gives him a grin and rests a hand on his shoulder, squeezing reassuringly. “Well, welcome to this table, then.”
Luca smiles, ducking his head.
“I am starting to wonder if being queer makes you better at Hockey,” Kip says, leaning his elbows on the table.
“It definitely makes you better at handling sticks,” Ilya jokes, then reaches for the menu.
