“What?”
“You heard me. Move in with me, and I’ll take care of you.” Potter’s eyes were locked on Draco. Draco couldn’t bear to hold their gaze directly, so his vision settled on a tiny mole on Harry’s left cheek. His chest burned with emotions, but he couldn’t quite parse which ones—fear, mostly. Dread. A throbbing intensity, like the adrenaline rush of standing at the edge of a great height. I’ll take care of you, he’d said. Draco had heard those words before.

“Harry.”
Harry’s eyes flicked up at the sound of Draco using his given name.
“I don’t think we can ever be friends. Not truly. Not after everything that’s happened.”
“Oh,” was all Harry could offer. He wasn’t sure why it hurt to hear it so directly.
“It’s just that, with our history . . . I think it would always get in the way.”
“Right.” Harry said resolutely. “Well, that settles it, I suppose. You don’t have to speak to me anymore.”
“Alright then.”
“Alright.”
They turned their heads away from each other, and that was that.
A long-timeline story of Harry and Draco post-war, inspired by and with homages to When Harry Met Sally. Will they? Won't they? Buckle up, baby!

Summary
It wasn’t that the Dursleys abused Harry, really. There were no horrible beatings, no injuries that left marks, nothing like that. But they were cruel with their words, and they controlled his food to the point that some days he thought he might go insane, and Vernon did slap him pretty hard the one time, after Harry dropped a soapy dinner plate and it shattered. Sometimes Vernon flew into rages, but it wasn’t, like, horrible. Harry could always maneuver his way through.
Or, the one where Harry is an American high school student, and Tom Riddle is a whole other kind of villain.

Summary
Officially, Auror Potter has been assigned to the duty of Draco’s probationary officer after he is released from house arrest. Unofficially, Harry’s being pressured by the Head Auror to drum up false accusations against him.
Draco is working as a professional illustrator and calligrapher. Harry doesn’t believe Draco is still a criminal, but there’s something strange about Draco’s portfolio - and Draco never, ever lets him get a look inside it.
Author’s note: My original intention with this fic was to write a bit of fluff about Draco doodling Harry’s name in his notebook, and what came out was a snarky, slow burn case fic and something close to an artistic manifesto. I like this better.
