Soobin is only getting older and subjected to living with a prevalent soulmark—a stark, blisteringly red handprint straight across his cheek. The depth of the color signifies how harsh the contact will be: an indiscreet slap, surely, as each outline of every finger is sharp and far too perfect to ignore.
He's been told that meeting one’s soulmate is the best experience in life, that once it happens, he’ll never want to look back. He just isn’t sure how much he believes them, nor is he confident that there’s anything that can truly, deeply console him, to ease the ache of knowing that one day, he will meet his soulmate, and they will despise him.

"I wouldn't mind kissing you," Beomgyu blurts, and immediately feels heat rush into his cheeks. "You're my best friend. You know, the one person I find the most comfort in… or… whatever."
"Only if you're certain, hyung," Kai says, firmly. Beomgyu isn't certain at all, but a tugging feeling in the pit of his belly keeps him from taking back his words.
If Kai thinks so lightly of this, then surely, Beomgyu can handle it.

"Just had to be the sun, right?" Beomgyu says, nonchalantly, as if he saw it coming; loudly so amongst the crowd, although no one responds. Soobin has never heard a crowd so quiet. "The universe could at least try to be unique."

"Do you think it's a big deal?" Every fiber of his being says so – yes, this is nothing to be taken lightly. Beomgyu is in love and he knows, he knows, he knows.
"It's not a big deal, Gyu. It's love," Soobin says, as though it's self explanatory. "Love is scary and stupid. It isn't painless, much less magical. But it's worth not running away from. It can be growth or comfort or passion or… all three. And more."
Beomgyu wanted to know what a kiss felt like, is all. He definitely didn't ask to fall in love with his best friend, who kisses like his life depends on it.

"Just think, where did you start?"
In a town no one knew of; red dirt, and beyond the flat plains, the smooth foothills of deep rooted pine and stalks of grass. Among the terrain, there was someone infinitely special. Lips as sweet as the words they spilled. Footprints in the mud alongside Yeonjun's own; bigger, deeper, steady in stride. Hands thick, full of everlasting promise. Starlit eyes of the brightest constellations.
"Somewhere far away," Yeonjun whispered.
Or, Yeonjun and Soobin grow up together, hand in hand, in a small town rampant with prejudice. Yeonjun, a moth to a flame, craves the freedom of the city, but Soobin remains tied down, scared of what lies outside of familiar territory. Amidst hardship, a secret teenage affair, running away, trafficking, and the ultimate escape; love is reconciled.

Soobin relished the sensations buzzing through him, the revelation of wanting Yeonjun present until every memory vacant of him was forever lost. He, Soobin, wanted and wanted and wanted — "I want you to move in with me, Jun."
Alternatively, Yeonjun was never quite good with his words, but at least Soobin listened.

This was Beomgyu’s position of existence. Unraveled yarn across the wooden floor, eyes gentle upon Taehyun as the younger boy remained unknowing of so much in spite of his intellectuality. Beomgyu wondered, deprecatingly, if ignorance was truly bliss.

In the same breath he could come to terms with his envy, he could also admit he didn't expect this; a man whose legs stretched beyond the Atlantic, like intimidating bridges leading to a path of concealed skin, long arms clad in a day's office attire, a lithe neck framed by a loosened tie, all beneath a face that Yeonjun swore he would never see again.
Add it all up, and Yeonjun was down in the dirt, feeling like a raging idiot as he choked on his words. "Hello, delivery for apartment— Wait, what?"
"Well, shit. Yeonjun? How long has it been?"
