Summary
He takes a deep breath.
“I want him the way I should have wanted Jane.”
Max is quiet, when he finally manages to look at her again. Her brows draw together slightly, pausing.
“But,” she whispers, in the space between them. “Will is a boy.”
Mike feels new tears well up behind his lids.
“Max.”
Something shifts in her expression, her mouth parting slightly.
“Oh.”
It’s quiet. Mike’s mouth pulls itself into a bitter smile. “Yeah, oh.”
or, it’s summer ‘90, and while everyone is off to college, Mike and Max scoop up ice cream in the rebuilt Starcourt Mall, reluctantly bonding over their shared hatred for children (and Mike’s little sister and idle friends) who just can’t seem to leave them alone.
or, 5 years later, it isn’t Robin and Steve working at Scoops Ahoy: it’s Max and Mike (who also get accidentally drugged. It's definitely not Steve's fault.)

Summary
A familiar laugh comes from his right—that recognizable, twinkle-light chuckle that airs towards a giggle when it's late, sometimes more low and husky in the mornings, a sound that Mike craves like water. He whips his head over to see Will approaching the table, his head tilted to the side and his smile lopsided, gentle. Jane is trailing after him, headphones over her ears and looking towards the lunch line, but Mike only has eyes for Will, who glances down at Babygirl Flour and smiles wider as he sits on Mike's left side. "You got your fake baby?"
"My very real baby, thank you," Mike corrects quickly, already grinning as he meets Will's gaze. "And Max's, but she doesn't even want to give our baby a name, so she's barely a parent."
Like the devil, summoned by her name, Max reappears with a lunch tray in hand, plopping down across from Mike with an annoyed look. "It's a bag of flour, Mike," she gripes at him. "Just because you're willing to get attached to the stupid thing doesn't mean that I am."
madwheeler get assigned a flour baby to watch over for two weeks. somehow, this results in both of them getting kissed by the people that they’ve been pining for.

Summary
In the summer of 1989, the Byers family moves to Montauk, cutting short Mike and Will's last summer together before college. Certain he'll never see his friend again, Will confesses his love on their last night together, rocking Mike's world entirely. As the tear-filled goodbyes draw to a close, however, Mike is suddenly offered the unexpected opportunity to travel with the Byers family and help them move.
They have five days out of state together to address Will's confession, learn to communicate, and maybe, just maybe, say a few things they should have said all along.
