“Contingencies,” Nico repeats.
Kayla nods again.
“Yes. You see, dear future brother-in-law —”
“Cease,” Nico snaps, reddening.

It's like, as if like somebody was gripping my-
“You’re not sick,” Nico murmurs, pressing the back of his hand to Will’s forehead. Will mutters something about bliss, leaning into Nico’s hand; he smiles again, but it is strained, and at odds with the glassy look in his eyes. The sharp, rapid breaths.
-throat and squeezing, and I feel like-
“Just don’t — feel good.”
-I'm being choked, and I can't breathe, and I shake, and-
“You’re having a panic attack, Will."
-I convulse, and sometimes-
Will shrugs. He gags again, but clamps his mouth shut before it goes anywhere, breathing deeply and carefully through clenched teeth, squeezing his eyes shut. His heart pounds faster, and the rapid movement of his chest grows shallow, but he manages to choke back his bile, swallow down whatever nausea is plaguing him.

“I’m — fine.” His laboured breathing is the loudest sound in the cabin. In the camp. “I’m handling it.”

In these moments, Nico understands the appeal of statues. He believes Will should be carved from marble, every dimple, every freckle, every muscle, preserved for years. Nico knows that the worst part of falling, the most painful, the moment that requires every ounce of strength to survive and even then is unbearable, is the getting back up. It is pulling your limbs back together, ripping your fingers out of the webs of roots that have grown over you in the days, months, years you have spent laying on the ground, and hobbling back home on broken legs, memories carved into your skin.
This particular plummet, he’s not quite there yet.
He is locked inside a long-abandoned castle, every inch made of cold stone, frozen-over cobbles that had been worn down centuries ago. There are endless hallways to explore, endless spots to hide in, stories and stories of stairs to climb. But he cannot leave.
And they always find him in the end, anyways.

Holding you. Watching you, in awe of you.” He drags his lips up to the base of Will’s shin, kissing the smattering of freckles there, and follows their discordant pattern up the strong, lithe swell of his calf, across the raised scar on the side of his leg, lingering on the side of his knee. “Worshiping you, my beloved, in your beauty.”
“Flatterer,” Will gasps. His hands slide themselves into Nico’s hair, as they so often do, tightening around the only locks, looping curls around his fingers like black iron rings. “You just want into my bed.”
Nico grins against his skin. “I am in your bed already.”
