And maybe it’s wrong to feel so utterly pleased about the fact that she can give Vi things others can’t but Caitlyn can hardly be blamed. After all, it’s not like anyone wants to find themselves in the position of another person being able to give their lover something they can’t. So yes, it leaves her quite pleased to please.
Come to find out, however, it also leaves her incredibly turned on.

“Hi,” Caitlyn says. “It’s sorted.”
A pained wince flashes across Vi’s face but she nods, scraping a bloody-knuckled hand over her face and sniffing hard once. She spits out a gob of red-streaked mucus and speaks down at the spot where it lands between her feet. “Thanks.”
“Can I take you home?” Caitlyn asks.
Shame rises off Vi like hot steam. She hunches in on herself again, runs a hand through her hair, still refusing to look up at Caitlyn. When she speaks, her voice is tight with strain. “You've already done a lot, Cait. I can have Powder—”
“Vi,” Caitlyn cuts her off. “You can tell me no, if you don’t want me to take you. I can go back to my flat and leave you with your brother and sister. But I am asking you — can I take you home?”

Vi ends up in a scrape that threatens to derail her whole life. Caitlyn comes through for her.

Cait is midway through tying a sprig of those white berries to the point of the spiral staircase which hangs just above her head when she whips around to gawk at Vi like she’s been caught doing something illicit. She blooms a cute red, down to her collarbone, exposed in the blazerless uniform chemise she’s unbuttoned down from its typical, perfectly professional state.
“Welcome back,” Cait says breathlessly. A little… invitingly, if Vi isn’t mistaken. Her girlfriend straightens her posture and looks at Vi like she’s waiting.
Vi huffs a little laugh under her breath. Who is she to deny Caitlyn the compliment she’s so obviously fishing for? “You put these up yourself?”
“I had some spare time,” Caitlyn says, a little smirk gracing her lips.
“They’re nice,” Vi smiles, walking over to inspect the box of decorations, intent on pitching in.
Behind her, Caitlyn is quiet. Then, almost inaudibly, she laughs- awkwardly, nervously, as if shaking off a disappointment.
“They… are.”
Caitlyn and Vi prepare to celebrate their first Snowdown together. Unfortunately, Vi isn't aware of one particular custom- yet.

Vi grabbed a stack of books from the top rows of the crate and set them aside so she could reach what was underneath. She was already grinning, cheeks already pink, as she wiggled free one of the leather-bound selections from below. When she saw the bold, curling font on the cover, imprinted in gold leaf into the darkened leather, she laughed and clutched it to her chest. She grabbed a second title from the bottom of the crate, then a third and fourth. By the time she pulled a fifth one and registered the silhouette of intertwined bodies pressed into the binding, her laughter had turned into a breathless giggle that probably would have been embarrassing, should anyone other than Caitlyn have been around to witness it.
“Are all of these…?”
“…steamy romance novels depicting passionate love affairs between women?” Caitlyn offered helpfully, her smile somehow even brighter than it had been just a moment ago. “Yes. The entire bottom half of the crate is full of them.”

Vi comes home to two very special surprises: Caitlyn - who has on exactly zero occasions managed to beat her home from work before - and a wooden crate in the library, packed to the brim and tied with a giant bow.

Summary
According to the rules, calling off the wedding requires a minimum of four hours of discussion, with mandatory cool-off periods of at least one meal and one sleep (or nap), and parental mediation by the only parent they have left between them. Vi privately thinks that Tobias only agreed to this in order to get them out of his office so he could get back to organizing the clinic shift schedule, but a deal is still a deal.
And so far, the wedding is still on.
Or: Vi and Cait plan a wedding, solve multiple mysteries, receive some surprising visitors, and survive disaster again, apart and together.

"Freckles," Caitlyn says, and shifts her grip to the nape of Vi's neck, urging her down so Caitlyn can kiss her face, dragging her lips softly, reverently over the new constellations of them blooming across Vi's face. They're faint, light brown, a beautifully chaotic spread stretching across her cheeks, over the slightly crooked bridge of her nose, curling up under her eyes.
