In Harry’s second year, the class is assigned to write a letter by their teacher. It’s just… she wants them to write a letter to Santa.
Harry’s never had anything to do with Santa— no Christmas celebrations and definitely no gifts. How is he supposed to write a letter to a man he’s never met, and never been allowed to hear about?

Voldemort is more vindictive, in the end. Avada Kedavra is not used. This, as well as a few other circumstances, changes everything.
One soul dies, and the wrong soul comes back.
Or: Harry dies, for good. He can't find the strength to be upset; maybe now he can finally rest. The Horcrux, waiting in limbo, is eager to take his place. Voldemort, in the present, is in for quite the surprise.

Harry is so used to trying to keep up with his shitshow of a life that when he’s alone, he can barely stand it. He was used to being lonely as a child, but now he knew what he was missing. Unfortunately, alone is all he can be at Number 4 Privet Drive— thank Merlin it’s his last time in this wretched house. When Harry is sorting through his belongings and accidentally nicks himself on a sharp object, he looks closer and comes face to face with a shard of his late Godfather's two-way mirror.
On the floor of his room, alone and bleeding, he lets himself fall apart… just this once.
