“Have you always read this much?” Tim asked with interest.
Jason shrugged, faking nonchalance, but his freckled face got redder like always when someone took interest in him, and this time he fixed himself to a sitting position, ready as always to talk about his one true love - books. Or, one of two true loves, anything edible coming close behind.
“I… My mom and I… We used to read together a lot. When I was a baby.” His voice was kind of wobbly, not unusual when the topic of Catherine Todd was coming up. His hands were getting clasped and unclasped every few seconds, his body showing his abashment to the outside world. Jason didn’t seem to be conscious of it. “We… were lying together in our bed and my mom read to me, and sometimes asked me to read some words or sentences. And when I learnt to read fast enough, we stopped reading the same book. My mom read her books, I read mine. But like… Still… Still together, you know.”(Or Tim is talking with Jason about books.)

“You said-” the kid hiccuped, eyes blinking intensively like always when he tried not to show he cried. “You said-” he repeated, but he seemed to be unable to coherently explain his thoughts. Instead, he reminded Tim with big teary eyes: “You promised.”
“Jason,” Tim repeated, taking a step forward. But when Jason took a few steps back in response, Tim raised his hands instead. “Jason, you know it’s dangerous for you to stay with me. You know what I do. You know it’s not safe for you.”
“You promised,” Jason kept repeating like this fact could make all the problems disappear. It, unfortunately, couldn’t.(Or Red, Tim Drake, is trying to find someone else to take the kid who was living with him for the last few weeks.)

Jason pulled his knees into his chest, wrapping his arms around himself in a hug. He felt his chin wobble and buried his face down. It wasn’t fair. Bruce promised this would stop. It was one of the whole reasons Bruce pulled him off the streets! But maybe he just meant guys in alleyways. The rules could be different in the hero world.

"I wanna try these cookies," he manages to rasp out. Hah. Rasp. he goes for a rasp-berry one next, before realizing his hand already has a blue cookie in it.
Raspberry red, he stares, like blood. Everything is a trigger, because everything is filtered through his own head, the crazy is coming from inside the house.
"Okay." Jason shrugs easily. Too easily. "Just tell me if you need me to do or not do anythin'. 'Cause, like, you look like you could use a hug. Or a warm bath or somethin'."
As if Tim isn't holding himself back from destroying everything, destroying Jason. Wrapping his hands around Robin's throat and crushing it like the cookies on the table.

Jason stopped holding back and let out a whine as he cried. He needed to tell his dad. Even if his dad made fun of him and called him a pussy. Jason couldn’t do it again. He hated that his voice came out in his sharp ragged breaths, “I didn’t like it.”
His dad’s hand stilled from where it had been smoothing away his tears. Jason looked up into his eyes expecting to find anger there. Instead, there was nothing but hurt and worry, “Jason? What happened?”
Jason told him everything.
An hour later, Jason’s dad was storming out of the house with a gun tucked in his waist band. Jason never saw him again.Jason's dad goes to jail protecting him. After he dies, Jason is left feeling the weight of it all.
