“I assume you have heard of the league of assassins?” Slade asked him one day. Dick scowled at the mention of the group. Dick hates Talia Al Ghul with a burning passion. Of course they've broken up now, but seriously, someone needs to talk about Bruce's taste in women. And the fact that the league has murdered people. That too of course.
“I have, yes.”
“Good. Because I have a task for you.” Slade began, he's given him missions before. Crimes like theft. Involving Dick with the league seems… off. “Ra's Al Ghul and I have had some discourse over the years. I would like to send a message of sorts.”
“Your mission will be to kill Ra's Al Ghul's grandson.”

Summary
"I kill so others don't have to," Bruce states firmly and clearly. This entire situation didn't seem like it could get any more bizarre, what with Bruce sitting in the dark and polishing guns, but somehow it just has, "While you are here you will not kill."
Jason's throat is scratchy and dry with terror, but the insatiable feeling of being talked over and disregarded is a fresh wound. He can't back down from this if he tried, "I've killed. I still kill. Who the fuck do you think you are to stop me?"
Bruce gently sets down his gun, and picks up the blade beside him with practised ease. Jason's blood runs cold when the man wearing his father's face says, "You will die by my hand if you try."
(Jason meets a version of Bruce who has manifested his fears very differently.)

Jason Todd also tends to get shitfaced drunk in random bars in Crime Alley and do impulsive shit - like killing the Joker after he breaks out of Arkham for the thousandth time.
It's only then that Batman starts hunting him down.
But not for the reasons you might be thinking.
And Jason Todd cannot resist pranking the Prince of Gotham.

It is relief that washes off of Bruce in great waves of uncertainty. Talia relishes in it all, dipping her feet into this new sea of understanding he's letting her in on. She wonders if he even realises that she knows, that deep down;
Batman is glad the Joker is dead. Batman is even more pleased that it was not him who killed the Joker.
The air between them smells like vindication.
Talia smiles to herself, "I didn't do it for you."

Dick grimaced, pausing at the top of the walkway as he stepped off Slade’s aircraft. He’d known that today’s agenda for the involuntary apprenticeship he’d been kidnapped into involved a trip to see Lady Shiva—but apparently Lady Shiva had a guest.
Lady Shiva was waiting at the gates of her compound, stance wide, arms crossed behind her back, and topcoat billowing lightly with the wind displaced by the aircraft’s landing. And beside her was Talia al Ghul in a loose, long, flowing dress made of layers of soft emerald fabric, whirling in the wind.
Bruce’s assassin ex-girlfriend and Dick’s archnemesis.
AKA A brief interaction between Dick and Talia.

Damian is dying, there's no question about it. But as father leans down to place a hand across his pulse, counting the slowly depleting thumps of a heartbeat, his expression horrified, Damian realises he needs to tell his father that Jason Todd is alive. He must.
He absolutely can not die letting Bruce Wayne think he has lost two sons.

Tim is hunched over his computer, bouncing between a report for B (Batman, not Bruce) and a spreadsheet for B (Bruce, not Batman) when Jason stumbles into the cave. If it weren’t for the fact that Jason had been in a somewhat good mood lately, Tim probably would have been a little more concerned about this fact. Still, it’s weird when, instead of ignoring Tim’s existence like he usually does, Jason walks over to him directly and says, “I'm in a time loop and I don't know why. Fix it."

this is so good, and at the start of the first story, it was funny, but as Jason tormented Bruce more and more, my heart hurt for Bruce. And to see how Dick reacts in the second story, is so so sad. Like I said, though, this is a good read. | series | reread | waiting for more
