| Sometimes he wondered if he should have just let the inferi take him. Let the water swallow him up and drag him into its inky depths, into... peace? He had been thinking about that a lot recently. Apart from his monthly excursions to creep on his brother and his family (yes family, Remus and Sirius had adopted a kid. Regulus hadn’t gotten out of bed for a week after he found that one out) He spent his weeks holed up an ancient magical library somewhere, poring over some ancient tome. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d seen anyone not through a pane of glass, and the last time he talked to someone? It might have been years. Once a week he’d crawl out of his bed to the local shop, well after closing, and grab anything he needed. He’d then stuff a few muggle bills into the strange machine on the counter and retreat to his small apartment. Was he really living? He thinks he did die that night. In all the ways that mattered. A shadow of him stayed on though. That’s all he was. A shadow.
Regulus was assumed dead in the war so he has been checking up on his brother and his family by watching them through their windows. One christmas he isn’t as sneaky as usual and he gets caught.

“Hello, darling,” Baz says, popping out from the bedroom. He’s gorgeous– he always is. His hair is dried and fluffy, the top half pulled back into a bun. There’s a hint of red right on the tops of his cheeks and over his nose so I know he’s had blood recently (I’ve learned a lot about Baz’s feeding habits now that he lets me tag along on his hunts. If he’s tired enough, he gets blood on his nose. I usually kiss it off. Then he mopes about for the rest of the night.) The jumper he’s wearing is mine. The entire outfit he’s wearing is mine. Jumper, trousers– he’s even stolen my socks. It’s ridiculous.
