Oh dear god. This fic made an attempt at murdering me.
I cannot express how well written and good it is. Not just for the characters but the essence of their horrific situation and coping mechanisms which then revolves from their already unhealthy codependency. Like it takes that relationship from the show and exemplifies it to so much greater once El dies.Mike struggling silently with his queerness and their relationship essentially torturing eachother for what like 6 months to a year. Oh dear god it’s good.
I will say this WILL be torture to reread so at ur own risk.
The 2 best parts of this fic is one Mike being honest and them having a meaningful conversation when they meet up in Hawkins. That scene was so raw and an emotional struggle for both equally, but they were so willing for eachother that they’d do it.
The best part is just the ending, where every aspect of their lives radiates with healing, like it brought me to tears every few sentences. The healing was so beautiful I can’t even (literally tearing up as I write this)
So this is perfect but also painful.
And it shows the intrinsic nature of the grief of El and how it fucks with them independently and makes them hurt eachother and how her absence causes such pain and suffering in their relationship (while they’re doing their torture coping thing)

It was ok, like it was there. Nothing inherently wrong with it or that annoyed me. But nothing to write home about.
The only nice touch was thy included Mike’s repeating his sentences thing which i haven’t seen many other authors do.
It hit all the main points, Mike writes will a letter, Mike writes a book about the paladin and the sorcerer which parallels their lives. Will talks to max about his feelings for Mike. Mike and Will sleep next to eachother and Mike def says some gay shit. And then Mike backs off and freaks out the next morning and upsets Will. Then he backs out of that and dramatically confesses in the rain (surprise surprise).
