“Are you just trying to tell me you prefer me with shorter hair? I’m not hot enough the way I am right now?” Ilya teased, his eyes gleaming with mischief that Shane clearly was not in the mood for reciprocating as he reached up with his hands to grip Ilya’s bare shoulders, pushing him in the direction of the aforementioned chair, a lawn chair that overlooked the glimmering lake.
“Ilya, sit.” Shane commanded, his tone strict and unwilling to be challenged, like he was telling a dog to behave. And Ilya, who wanted nothing more in life than to be treated like Shane Hollander’s obedient dog, sat himself down without any protest.
--
Shane notices Ilya’s hair is getting too long and cuts it for him.

Summary
For tonight’s Ottawa versus Montreal game, the Centaurs Captain, Ilya Rozanov, will be mic’d up!
That was the announcement that was broadcast on the channel streaming the game. This was also what Ilya had completely forgotten to tell Shane about, because he’d only been told earlier that day himself. Honestly, Ilya was nervous, like very nervous. What if he gave something away? What if people could tell how in love he was from the way he spoke to Shane on the ice? He would’ve been much more thrilled to do this against a team that was not Shane’s, because he knew the quips he made on the ice would be enjoyed by fans.

Ilya is mic’d up on the ice during a Montreal vs Ottawa game, and forgets to tell Shane which leads to an almost fight on the ice and an actual fight at home that night.

Summary
Shane Hollander thought he’d retire a Metro.
Instead, he gets a phone call about cap space, strategic realignment, and how loyalty looks great in a press release but terrible on a spreadsheet.
Montreal trades him.
Ottawa waits with the porch light on.
Between a late-night highway drive, a captain with pale curls and a competitive streak a mile wide, and a press conference full of carefully polished lies, Shane discovers that maybe losing a franchise means finally finding a home.
Also, he is absolutely not getting first line centre without a fight.
