"I swear to the saints, Brekker, if you've been hiding being sick from us and you're almost about to die too, I will kick your ass." Nina snaps, but he can smell the worry beneath, and the stress.

They’re greeted with sight of Kaz sitting at his desk, leg propped up on the side, clearly newly wrapped in bandages, and a man—one so tall he has duck down to avoid hitting his head on the ceiling—looking at them with a blank expression. His eyes glide over them, a frankly frightening shade of blue, with disinterest.
“Well,” the man starts, voice so smooth it was almost slimy, “This is quite the first impression.”

There’s a second set of footsteps following him up, Kaz doesn’t bother to turn around or tell them to ‘fuck off’, he knows who’s following him. His leg is throbbing by the time he makes it up the stairs, yet another thing he can’t bring himself to care about. He waits to close the door until the man who’s followed him is in the room, he knows it doesn’t matter if the door is closed or not, he’ll always find a way in but, still, it feels wrong to just slam the door in his face. He doesn’t lock the door.
He settles in the chair in front of the desk and the man settles on top of the desk. It shouldn’t support his weight, it’s nothing more than a door balanced precariously on empty fruit crates but that doesn’t matter. Because this man has no weight. Because if anyone else walked in, all they would see is Kaz hunched over his desk. Because this man is not real.
