Summary
The sun inches slowly along the ground, the shade retreating with each passing minute. Steve can feel the strain in his thighs go from a pleasant stretch to a burn to a numb buzzing under Eddie’s weight. It can’t be that comfortable, laying as Eddie is. And yet.
He turns another page.
Steve loses track of time.
He’s sweating, the sun having reached his knee when Eddie suddenly closes his book and sits up.
He stretches, the hem of his tee riding up to show a sliver of his lower back. Steve watches.
Eddie catches him looking.
“Interesting,” he says, “I didn’t know chairs had eyes.”

Summary
Bastard daughter Stevie of Harrington’s first step off the ship onto Wallach IX was marked by torrential rain.
She was to become a Sister, her mother had informed her. What once caused fear within her heart, a punishment meant to threaten, now came as a welcome distraction. A fresh start.
But Wallach IX itself was no reprieve.
-“I am terrible at this. I am not meant to be a Sister.”
“There was a girl once. She was small. Bred for purpose, like many, and yet left unfulfilled in the wake of a great crusade against her kin. Made by secretive houses. Ones that her kin called evil, vile, though they were rather lax in sharing the very same words had been used to describe their planet for millennia. Mistakes.
“Try again,” Eddie said suddenly, softer than the rest. Tapped Stevie’s knee. “Humor me, pretty thing.”
Stevie sighed heavily, fearing the lesson would end in failure like each and every one before.
And yet, she touched thumb and forefinger.
She did not close her eyes.
“This girl remembers her birth."

"You guys are used to all of this shit going on, but I'm still trying to wrap my head around it. Still trying to come to terms with the fact that we may not even come out of this alive, so I apologize if I walk around a little so I don't tear my fucking hair out."
"Well what do you normally do when you need to, like, get rid of energy?"
It's been days of Eddie running on very little food and sleep, which is the only possible explanation for why he says what he says next.
"Jack off, usually." He freezes in place, but before he can even begin to be mortified, Steve shrugs and says "So do that."
