Summary
Jason didn’t know when it started. If he thought about it, he remembered the bright light that surrounded his mom in her last days. After that, he noticed the way some people lit up, outlined in a growing brightness that emitted from the edges of their beings. The brighter the individual, the closer they were to death.
At the parties that Bruce insisted on dragging him to, he expected the dim light from the tired old businessmen who drank too much and were limping closer to their ends, glowing a little more every time Jason saw them.
What he did not expect was for the 12-year-old neighbor kid to light up like a damn Christmas tree the second Jason laid his eyes on him.

Summary
Tim didn’t expect heroism to make him feel so helpless.
Maybe if he’d just avoided that bully like usual, none of this would have happened. But no, that would only have delayed the inevitable. And after everything Jason had done for him, Tim could make a few sacrifices to return the favor.
He just didn’t expect it to hurt quite this much.
Or, one of Jason's old bullies turns his sights on Tim--and if Tim doesn't keep his head down, Jason will pay the price.
(This can probably be enjoyed on its own, but will make more sense with the series' context!)

Tim is officially in the foster care of Bruce Wayne, having survived neglect and a home invasion. But storybook endings don't come wrapped in bows.
It might be easier if Bruce wasn't so stubborn about the whole "no chasing vigilantes on patrol when you're untrained and barely out of the hospital" thing. Batwatching is Tim's only release, and with his entire life now thrown in the air, he needs it more than ever.
What Bruce doesn't know won't hurt him. Right?
