When he was younger, Eddie used to wish he’d happen, too. And he didn’t, but Christopher did, and no matter how terrifying a pregnancy test at nineteen was, Eddie’d feel all that fear again and again every single day to be with his kid forever.
But Chris is fourteen now, fourteen and independent and more of a self-assured man than Eddie was at that age, and Eddie’s starting to think about happening again. About the waiting game, and about the supersonic crack of a bat hitting a ball. About how right it feels for a glove to slip over his hand, big and warm and all-encompassing. About where he finds comfort in the stillness, and where he finds life worth living in its disruptions.

And Jules sort of breaks. It’s a combination of the alcohol and the fact that she made some insane choices tonight and the way he looks in profile, the way he looks when he’s actually calm for once in his life. It’s the memory of his hands on her hips and his mouth on hers and the way his shoulders feel under her palms, and fuck, she’s never going to be able to forget those things. It’s the fact he’s acting so much more like a person than she’s ever really seen him act, and she’s finding it harder and harder to ignore that she wants to know more about who that person is.

When she was younger, Jemma thought life was late nights in the lab with Fitz and A-stars and chatting with a few other stressed-out kids once a week, and she thought that was enough. And now she knows life is precious and short and terrifying and thrilling, and she knows that Daisy’s fingers on hers as she passes over the pipe and lighter makes her feel alive, and she knows that movie nights with the team make her feel alive, and she knows that life is still late nights with Fitz, except only half of them are in the lab now. She’s able to gorge herself on love instead of just scraping by.
And she hates herself a lot for that, is the thing. She’s selfish. A glutton. She was surviving. She didn’t need to do anything more than that. Because the higher you climb, the more it hurts when you fall. Jemma looks at Daisy and her broken bones and her broken heart and her broken smile and wishes she knew how to apologize.

Jughead’s great at contemplative silence. A veritable master, really. It’s all part of his brooding lone wolf thing. All he needs is a back pocket’s worth of angsty poetry and a motorcycle to put his girl on the back of and he’ll be a bona fide 80s movie bad boy.
Of course, all Jughead has now in his back pocket is stolen gas station maps that lead away from the trailer he left his Allen Ginsberg in. He replaced his motorcycle with some perpetually-untied sneakers, and he replaced his blonde beauty with the boy next door. So maybe he’s not doing so great at playing his part. Or maybe he’s in a different movie. Maybe they both are.

He groans, turning back around and burying his face in his hands again. “Because Bucks probably already told her and there’s no doubt I’ve jumped to the top of her to be killed list.” He looks up. “Don’t tell me she doesn’t have a to be killed list, because I guarantee she does now.”
“Okay. What’s going on?”
He takes a deep breath, shaking his head. “I kissed Buck.”
